Good Posting Etiquette

Collapse

  • Try to keep your remarks positive. If you have nothing good to say don't say it at all.
  • Support and abide by site moderator directions. Moderators support the site on a voluntary basis and are given the authority to enforce site policies by the site administrator. They are also here to help, please feel free to ask them for advice on site rules or for help navigating the site or even where to go for help with equipment.
  • Help out the new members. Remember that everybody including yourself was a new member on Bowl-Tech. Be patient and helpful no matter what level of experience they have. Make them feel welcome.
  • Be specific with topic heading. This is the best way to get attention and to get the information you need. When asking for help remember to include model and manufacturer if the equipment and with electronics and scorers its good to include software version numbers. This will speed up the process of getting the answers you need.
  • Keep Threads On Topic. When you reply to a topic do not change the subject in the middle. It is rude and my take the thread away from topic so far that the originator may not get the information they are looking for.
  • Do not type in all CAPS. This can be considered as yelling and offensive not to mention distracting.
  • Avoid "Which is better" posts. These types of posts often hurt feelings. Its OK to ask for specific information on a product that will help you make a decision on which is better.
  • Search For It !!. Prior to asking a question it may help to use the sites search engine to see if it has been discussed. There is over a decade of information on the site and in many cases the answers already exist.
  • Would you want your mom to see your post? Prior to making any post be sure it is not offensive or abusive. Read it over prior to clicking the submit button.
  • Be factual. A posting that says "XYZ's product sucks" will most likely get you banned from the site and could cause legal actions against yourself. Please visit our complaint about a product or service guidelines prior to making such a post continue further down this page.
  • Promoting a product. We have no problem with posts that tell how a product or service is working. Our community is about sharing experiences good or bad. Excessive promotion of a product or vendor could be perceived by the moderators as self promotion or posts by that vendor, company or service provider. These situation will be investigated and can be very embarrassing for those parties involved and in some cases could be perceived as an endorsement which are regulated by the Federal Trade Commission. FTC 16 CFR Part 255.
  • Take it up with the producer. If you have a problem with a product or service be sure that FIRST you have discussed the problem with that service or part provider.
  • Agree to Disagree. You are not going to agree with every post on the site or every point of view presented by other members. If you wish to make your agreement in public in a forum then do so respectfully and explain why you disagree. And don't beat the dead horse, when it is discussed and points are made its time to move on.

A Member is posting negative comments about your product
It is going to happen. Not everybody will like or understand your product or service. We do hope and encourage members to contact vendors directly when there is a problem with a product or service. Please carefully consider your approach to a situation like this. There are a couple of ways you can go with this.
  •  Send a Private Message directly to the person who made the post
  • This approach is least desirable as it does not allow other members who may have the same concerns or questions to see a response that may help them as well.

  •  You can post a public reply with a solution or course of action

    • Identify who you are and what company you represent.
    • Offer corrective suggestions specific to your product or service.
