  • Advantage Front Desk Terminal

    I'll be replacing our front desk terminal next week.
    I have all the settings written down,I'm wondering if there is anything else I might need to know before I attempt the swap.

    Nothing other than getting a compatible terminal if it's not the same model.

    And if it's a Wyse 520, make sure you aso write down the settings in the sub-menus.

      It's a Wyse 185,replacing with the same model from Vecmar.

        You should have no issues then. Are you using the same keyboard or are you getting a new one of those also? If you are...then you will need to change the keys on the keyboard with the ones on the old one.

          Also getting a new keyboard,the number keys on the old one are dying,especially the 5 and 0.
          That's the main reason for the replacement,plus the monitor is getting progressively darker.
          All of the desk people have been complaining about it for awhile.
          Kind of funny to walk up front and lane 1 is running with no one bowling because the 5 didn't take when they were turning on 15.
          Gets to be a real pita when we're busy though.
          Been trying to get it replaced for around two years,it finally got on the owners nerves enough this week that she ordered the new one.
          I'm looking forward to getting the new one installed.
          Early Merry Christmas to me.

            LOL...I know what you mean. We lost the 2 key and had all kinds of trouble with the low end being turned on instead of something in the 20's. The desk people would state that they turned the lane on...but it didn't go on. They would do it again and it would work that time. Of course, they just didn't realize what was happening...regardless of how many times we showed them. Just got a new keyboard and that solved the problem.                   Update! The new terminal arrived yesterday,got it installed with no problems after hours last night.
                  I knew the old monitor was getting dim but didn't realize just how bad it was until I saw the new one.
                  Since this is a refurbished terminal I didn't know what to expect in terms of outside looks,was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box.
                  It took longer to swap keys between the two keyboards than it did to get the terminal up and running.
                  Overall a pretty painless install,the owner is happy and I know all of the desk people will be happy.

                          Holy shemoly wb8yjf, Your bringin' up some really old memories for me! We had a guy that slammed the register closed so hard he would temporarily unplug the terminal! I got called three times a day every shift he worked to reset the settings! I haven't thought about that in years! You brought a big grin to my face!
