• 7-10 Pin

Hi guys Im on my vacation, but at least twice a month I check the center. The 7 and 10 pin on lane 6 is not loading first, also the grippers are not openning, I just want to check if it might be the I/O. Also on another machine the 7 pin is OK but the 10 pin grippers are not opening.

I will be checking and writing every so often, have a good summer.

The lane which is not loading the 7-10 could be the I/O as for the other machine with the 7 pin problem it could be several things but I would start with the pin holder solenoid.

Re: 7-10 Pin

I changed out the whole pin holder (easy job) when I had that problem, and found that that a wire going to the red solonoid broke internally . I replaced the red solonoid in the holder with a spare, I pulled and put it back in service and presto it worked.

Also I found that the inside of the solonoid gets dirty where there is not enough of an electromagnetic field not strong enough to pull the plunger in on the solonoid. I pull the plunger out of the solonoid (a tricky job if you don't pull the holder off the table) and take a q-tip and clean the plunger and plunger hole in the solonoid...it works.

Little known fact. Check your B switch adjustment if you have a pinsetter not preloading the 7/10 pins.

Hi Spain and everyone else,
You have GS-98s and some of the early models do have a movable B switch. I also would check that first. Then check what the other guys said...all good suggestions. Just food for thought...after around 600,000 frames, the red solenoids will give you a problem that sounds exactly like this one. What happens is the small plastic guide ring or throat, at the opening of the plunger hole, will break off from normal use. Sometimes it chips away in small pieces and other times it will break away as a complete ring. In either case, the grippers will not open as they should. Just thought I would throw that out there to give you guys something to look forward to. Take it easy.

Hey Bruce, where did you ever get the idea that a red solenoid will last 600,000 frames. What colour is the sky in your world? We have changed about 150 of 240 in the last two years. Our oldest machine has only 275,000 frames. I am a little more hopeful after the new modifications to the solenoid. Good to hear from you. Hello John at Fleetway.

I hear good things about the new solenoids. How are they working for you?
