    IIRC..... lot of Japanese A-2s used gearboxes that were manufactured in the US and shipped overseas to be installed in frames manufactured in Japan.

    Worked at an AMF owned center (originally owned Fair Lanes) which had Japanese framed A-2s with Japanese electrical boxes, American gearboxes and serial number tags on the cross conveyor showing their assembly from Germany.
