DMX512 lighting 101

I'm once again sorting out and Cosmic Bowling light show that never worked or looked quite right. I am always amazed at what was a 'professional' install, where basic DMX rules are ignored. So, to help inform my BT brothers and sisters, I'll start a thread to help inform. Here's what I've learned over the years.

What is DMX512 protocol?
DXM lighting protocol is a system of controlling your light show. Used in night clubs, theater and stage productions, landscape accent, and by those crazy folks that put a million lights on their house for the holidays. DMX allows you to remote control intelligent and non-intelligent lighting fixtures. Now days, you can even control DMX from your smart phone.

I did some forum searching before I decided to post this, but the only results I had where anywhere from 1cm to 1/2inch. The issue I have is that my lane 1 settings table is...a good bit off.

The earth ground is indeed connected to the trans.
It is also connected to the chassis frame.

Pin Guide Rail Issue

Hi guys,
A fellow head tech at one of our centre's asked me for help the other day and what I saw is a problem I have never seen before, and to be honest don't understand how it could happen, but it did as I saw it.... when base first pins go up the pinwheel along the pingiude rail they don't actually touch the rail, 9 out of 10 pins drop onto the rail about an inch before the o pan but that 1 in 10 will sail right over the o pan. If you turn the b/e off with a pin in the pinwheel there is roughly 3/8"- 1/2" gap between the pin and the rail. What I want to know is how the hell could that happen. I have suggested to him take ALL the holders off and swap them with another odd lane... and see if problem moves.
Anyone here ever seen this before

Is it important to replace the grey riveted elevator strips? I know without it the elevator has a lot of play. Or is it mainly to dampen the sound.

Here is the ones we made for the 60 lane house I work in. Again stainless and we haven broke one since they were put in. Some were in but I had to tweak a few things as they were a little to wide but now they are perfect.
