• Cameras & Bumpers.... Uh oh!

Hey all,

Here is one that I dont recall seeing posted recently.

We have AMF durabowl bumpers, and Brunswick Frameworx scoring.

I am very happy with both of the products, but I can forsee a big problem in the making. When the bumper rails are up for the kids, they also create a "track" on the capping to guide an errant delivery that misses the lane directly into the camera. (Yeah, I thought that would stop that kind of thing, but it just makes the kids try to throw the 6 pounders harder).

How many of you have put some kind of "obstacle" in the rear (side facing the bowlers) of the camera to stop an errant shot from hitting the camera?

If so, how/what did you use to do it?

I can see that I will need to do something before one or more of our cameras get whacked good enough to send to dear old brunswick for repairs.

Thanks in advance,
Wookie8662

we have qubica at all 3 of our centers and qubica has a "deflectors that goes in front of the camera just for that reason. and from experience...they work. lol have seen a thousand ball go right by the camera thanks to that little puppy. i would install them even if i didn't have qubica or bumpers. at $30(i'm guessing) it's cheap insurance for your camera. if you'd like i can take a pic and post it for you. you could easily make them yourself...but i'm too lazy.

I don't know about AMF bumpers but we just installed DBA bankshot and the balls will "come to rest" so to speak somewhere between the 3rd and 4th sections. The rail sections are long enough and weak enough that the balls kind of fall back to the lane. Also, King is right about the covers, they should be made of some kind of metal and not plastic.

As for the turkey bowl, since I have some extra time this year I am going to stop by and pick up some extra cash... lol

Throw a frozen turkey at the 4,7,10 split. This happens during a live remote broadcast by the local rock station. If you pick it up you win $104. The people who pick it up have a "turkey off" for $1000. There are usually 4 people or so make it in 4 hours. I have seen the 7-10 made and the 4 left with the turkey.

We have had dura bowl and AS-90's for 5 yrs now. The ball has never made it all the way to the cameras here, at least not with enough speed to cause any harm. The ball usually stops, or gets lodged between the caps and the rail.

Hey all,

Spoke too soon...

Yeah, we have the metal covers from Brunswick over the cameras.

Had a kids father toss a wild one, and it did just that, smacked the camera cover and sent it flying.. One of the front camera base studs that the camera pivots on got broken, and knocked the camera wayyyy out of adjustment. I couldnt get the camera back in adjustment with the missing pivot, so I had to replace it. The camera electronics remained intact, just a broken base part. (I guess thats a good test of their stability?)

Good thing we are still under warranty.

Gonna look into the Qubica deflectors, or have to design one of my own.

Thanks for all your input, I appreciate it.
