  • VGA pins on ECT Board

On our ECT boards we are using the RGB pins for connecting to our Wells Garner monitors. Our ECT board also has 2 connectors , (4-pin) labeled VGA. With the correct pinouts, would we be able to connect to those and have the display on a flat screen monitor?

You are going to have to inquire as to that VGA signal output. What is the horizontal frequency? If it's 30- 32 Mhz, its probably compatable with a PC input to a LCD minitor. If its 15 Mhz, it will have to be converted (doubled) to work on a monitor with a VGA input.

No, it doesn't work. We've recently tried it for our older ECT centres. The best way for a reliable flat screen conversion is to pick up their converter card and replacement PSU. The AT power supplies are harder and harder to find, so the newer card uses a common PSU and powers the ECT card from it. The converter card also eliminates the need for the MIB's in the monitor (if you have them).

Kanga, Do you know of any commercial converters that work? I've seen our ECT system converted with an Arduino microcontroller, but it was done by a company that specializes in electronics. I need to figure it out so we can do it on our own.

The problem isn't so much the ECT side, but more the video. We are going with open frame monitors designed to directly replace CRT's in video games (we're making our own housing). Worked like a dream for the game display, but when you switch to video...nothing. Cybernetic Solutions do sell an affordable converter, but since Comscore just came out with a direct replacement that also does away with the need for an AT style power supply and MIB, we decided it worth the extra cost, less the hassle.

I'm still trying to figure these VGA pins on our ECT board. Not worried about video since we may add new TV screens for that. But would like to know if these pins would work for our scoring.
