  • vdb 96 error 228

hey.....through searching here, i have figured that the battery is toast in my vdb96...swapped with another pair, and the problem moved with it...the question now is what are my options? can i replace this myself? are the batteries available these days? i think i have a spare board that has been in a box for ten years or more....perhaps i can swap the board? as always, your input is welcomed, thanks!

well....this just in.....the lanes i swapped the vdb into doesnt communicate with the system....the screen saver loads and runs...but i cant give out the lanes, nor send a league to them...i have a qubica manual but it doesnt cover this topic....if theres a quick answer, that would be great, as my league starts in an hour... thanks!

Reboot the VDB and note the VDB serial number and lane pair number on the screen. Write down the serial number. If the lane pair number is not 48 or 96:
At the front desk >Setup >Technical Setup >VDB Address. Type in the serial number and change address to pair 48. It should reboot and show pair 48.

Go to Setup >Technical Setup >Replace VDB. Select this serial number and the pair you have it installed on. It should reboot several times and come up as the correct pair.

If you have a Conqueror version before 1.76 it may be more complicated because you won't see the replace VDB option. If you have a later version it may say replace lane computer instead of replace VDB. The instructions above should still work.

excellent input! i figured there must be an identifying thing....somehow the system knew the swapped in unit came from another lane...when returned to its home pair, it worked fine...so...through some research here, which helped me understand some of what my qubica manual says, i guessed that the old unit lost its stored info, and perhaps i can reload it...on the programs page, there was a choice that reloaded the screens and programs...if i understand correctly, everytime i turn them off, i need to reload...thats not hard...i could also leave the computers on at all time, but that doesnt sound good....that said, i am kinda pumped! for now, i dont need to address the battery change...but would like to as soon as possible...do i have some options? can i just find a matching size and rating style battery, and do the soldering work? dont want to open a can of worms i cant afford....thanks again!

          Well this is a first.

We all from time to time have one of those “wow I’ve never seen THAT before” moments. Well today was one of those for me when my night tech texts me to say lane 16 is out...
