  • Fenice 34" Monitor fixes

Have any of you repaired your own monitor boards for exagerated horizontal problems? I feel a cap or two have gone south, have 2 spare boards, have used bothin the last year. both have same problem.Perhaps a common problem with this age of board... No more spare boards now, would like to get these back into my spare parts inventory working.

I have repaired them in the past (though we don't use them now) for various problems - excessive bowing, oversize (hoizontal/vertical) and no picture. In all but one case, it was simply a matter of finding blown capacitors, and replacing them with new ones. The caps do dry out over time (particularly if the cooling fans are not present or don't work) - look for the electrolytic capacitors (cylindrical ones with 2 legs coming out the bottom) that are bulged (even just a little bit) at the top, get replacement ones (should be the same capacitance, but a higher voltage rating is OK), desolder the old ones, and solder new ones in. Generally, this will solve most or all of your problems. Unfortunately, I don't have a board here any more, so I can't be much more help, but if you're handy with electronics and a soldering iron, you'll be fine!

Thanks Andrew. I found that the C53 a 22mfd. @ 250vdc was open, replaced and all is perfect again. Had another monitor with the same beginning signs of the score running off the right edge, and found the same cap bad! 2 monitors fixed perfect for less than 5 bucks AMF no longer has these boards in stock, and charge about 474.00 for a repair on them.

No worries! I used to keep several of the caps that commonly fried on hand, and generally replaced the lot (about 5 all together i think) whenever I had to do a repair, the theory being that if one was toast, then there were probably others on their way out!

Glad to hear you got it all sorted mate, sure beats paying someone a fortune to do it for you!

At what thickness do you replace the clutch face.
Is there a minimum dimension from the clutch face to the rivet.
