  • Time to change the overhead CRTs

We are looking at replacing our 25 inch Fenice CRTs with flat screens. We would like to avoid going through QAMF (big bucks for their kit!) I have talked with the Graeme from Tenpintec and he suggested a converter (Not made by them) that would work with my VDB99s. Has anyone done this? The converter plugs into the VDB and then you run a cable from the converter to a TV with a VGA input. Sounds like a great way to new overheads to me.
    Any input would be great!

I've plugged in a LCD screen from Happ controls to the VDB without a converter, and is works fine. It is a 16:9, and has the same connector as is plugged into the existing overhead board. truely plug-and-play. Only issue is mounting the screen into a cabinet. It's designed for arcade games where you add a bezel to compensate for the 4:3 ratio. Here is the page on my web site where I tried it. The control pad allows you to adjust the size and position to fit your display cover.

We replaced all or old screens at one of our venuse with commercial grade 42" flat screens about 2 years ago and we used the Converter and we haven't had a problem with then at all. They are very easy to put in and very user friendly. We bought all the screens, mounting brakets and converters from Tenpintec and just installed them all inhouse. The hardest part was lowering the old CRTs.

If you are talking this - http://www.evolutionscoring.com/ - then yes, we did it about 2 1/2 years ago. 56 lanes worth of it. Bought our own monitors and they supplied the mounting bracket and the converter box. We also had them handle the install because we were too busy doing other things at the time. Wasnt hard to install but you would probably want a genie lift to get the old stuff off the ceiling. Those older crt qubica cabinet are EXTREMLY heavy as one piece. And we have not had a single issue with the converters.

I don't think you need a converter for VDB 99.

I too like Evolutions conversion. I've put in theirs, Brunswicks, QAMFs and a few converter boards. As long as you get the value you feel will be good, the customers will LOVE the new looks! Most will comment about all new scoring.
