  • freezing problem

i got a pair of lanes that will freeze up, reboot pair no error code. i gather that when it does this, you can transfer, and open the other lane no problem. the problem its having is you cant turn on the odd machine, or turn off the even machine without rebooting, however the monitors operate normally, ie open the opposite lane you get the warning screen and score grid. were thinking the center took a power spike and maybe damaged the f-box or the camera board, we did change the camera board today too see if that changes anything. also all ball detects get disabled as well. i dont think this is a 3qt problem but you never know.

    any thoughts?

My next step would be an upload to lanes. If that takes care of it, it's a software issue. If not, swap 3QT to another pair, F box to yet another pair, keypads and bowlers terminal board to yet another pair until all components are spread across the house. If you move all the components to one pair and the problem shows up on that pair next week you won't know which one was bad.

I would be re-trying that board in another pair of lanes before to try and exchange it with Qubica.

still doing it, we did swap everything with adjacent pairs, problem did not move. im thinking it has something to do with lane 8, being it only happens when this machine is running. this is on a candlepin machine. could a ball detect have an internal short that could cause this? dont think the 3qt box is bad, being you can transfer and turn lanes on and off, however pinsetter(s) will stay on.
another thing too is the f boxes are not grounded, could this be it too?

You could have a problem in a ball sensor, and since this is candlepin the ball sensors are probably mounted a distance from the camera board giving you more wire that could be damaged. But I don't think a ball sensor problem is as likely to cause what you are seeing as an LCOM cable problem. I would look at the LCOM cable from the F box to the camera board next then the one from the camera board to the bowlers terminal.

in this center the camera board is directly under the f-box, center had above ground returns, cant mount camera on capping. there is probally a pinched or loose wire somewhere in lane 8.

Have you swapped the 3QT with the pair next to it? The procedure to swap 3QT's is a little involved but it can be done if you do not have a spare.

thats the only thing other than ball detects that have not been moved. this center does have a static problem, always has. it is most likely related to that.

The curious thing about Qubica is that the cameras seem to not need to be grounded. In fact, the manual mentions this and that they are 'internally' grounded. Ours are on plastic capping and there seems to be no static issues.

We were having some problems a couple years ago and added ground straps to the cameras. While talking to the Q techs, I mentioned this and they told me to remove the ground straps.

Isn't that curious? I mean it goes against what you think you should do... but there it is.
