  • Walker Sport blowing 20 amp fuse every few days.

I have a Walker sport that has blown the 20 amp fuse twice. The first time it happened I cleaned the vacuum hoses and vacuum motor out. Thinking that dirty hoses may be causing extra strain on the motor. Then it happened again. The second time it melted the fuse into the fuse into the fuse holder. I crimped the spade connectors down thinking that if they were loose it may be causing the problem. Has anybody else had any issues with the vacuum systems? Could the contactor be bad?

Cant say I have had this happen yet. How old is the machine? Have you ever changed the vacuum motor brushes?

The machine is only 7 OR 8 montys old. The vacuum motor brushes look good. I completely disassembled the vacuum motor and hose to rhouroghly clean. I found what appeared to be a loose spade connector on the vac. motor fuse. Which I think caused some arcing, and slightly melted the fuse holder. I have since installed a new fuse holder and secured the wires. The batteries are in need of replacing, as the machine runs out of batteries before it can finish it's run in the morning. I'm thinking that maybe due to the battery voltage dropping down so far the vac. motor is pulling too many amps. Or on some off chance the points on the contactor for the motor have deteriorated.

The first time I blew that fuse, I changed it to a mini breaker. No more issues until a few weeks ago. Started blowing the fuse every 10 lanes or so...sometimes sooner. Thought it was a weak breaker, so I installed a new one just for kicks. Same issue. Changed the brushes in the vacuum motor...same issue. Ordered a new motor from Grainger and all is good now.

Steve, do you know if anybody has tried to order a new motor from grainger? I found one that looks like what the walker sport takes. Grainger number: 2M189.

            Interesting info

The vacuum motors build up crud in the vacuum housing after awhile, even with good maintenance and even if no one picks up the machine with full waste tank..Most likely moisture...
Either way with the DC volt motors you guys run it must make them draw more amps sooner , eventually??

I had a 4:1 go bad and I've never seen or done one before. Trying to search the depths of the forums, YouTube videos, it didn't seem too bad....
