  • Wood Approach

So we just had our approaches resurfaced and the guy only put down 1 coat of finish which I thought was weird but he said is normal. Didn't argue because he is a professional but not even a week later we have black spots we can't seem to get up and scratches everywhere. I have tried a floor buffer with 3M scotch Brite pads and approach cleaner. Any suggestions? For fresh approaches I think they should look a lot better than they do!

Many years ago I told a Re-surfacer that he should use 2 coats on the Approaches, I told him it says so on the can, so he went and read it, it surprised him, he had only been told to only put on 1. This was a guy I knew from bowling before we both worked in bowling and I worked in bowling for 38 years. I remembered from a course I went to taught by DBA's Remo Pochetti in 1978, who showed with miscro-scopic photo's, that when you coat, timber still sticks up through the coating and must be buffed down before the second coat. So read the instructions, this is why ball impacts show up because the Timber is not fully coated
    always doing my best.

When I used to coat approaches (water based) I would put down 1 HEAVY coat. never had complaints. What the approach is screened with and how clean it is before coating is the most important part as far as the roughness is concerned.

What is a good cleaner for wooden approaches? All I can find says it is for synthetic. I started using alcohol but the cleaner I have sticks the rag/mop to the approach.

About 2 coats in the approaches….
the only time I ever put 2coats is when I was using lacquer finish.
with water base finish you would get very slick sliding.
Even when using lacquer, I only double coated the slide area.
WE ARE NOW REALLY TWIN OAKS LANES.

            *sigh* Hello friends..
