Re: Units of oil
Senator,
A unit of oil IS a unit of oil, as long as we're all using the Brunswick lane reader. (& I think we are)
However, the amount of UV additive that's put into the oils (so that we can use the Brunswick reader) has always been a question that I've had. I once heard there was a max. they could put in but not a min. (Or maybe it was the other way around) Either way, this sounds like it could be inconsistent.
Does anyone know if there is an exact measurement of how much UV additive goes into the oils?

Re: Units of oil
to answer your question, there is a minimum AND maximum measurement for the u.v. additive. i don't know off hand but i will find out and let you know. as for the units question...a unit of oil is a measurement that the abc came up with and is the standard measurement for lane oil. think about this....3 units of oil is 21 millionths of an inch. just thought you'd like to know.

Re: Units of oil
senator
I believe that the UV additive is supposed to be 330ppm but variations have been seen from 100ppm-500ppm that is why it is important to be dealing with an oil that has consistency and quality control.
As a distributor in Australia if you require any information please feel free to contact me.

Re: Units of oil
I would also like to add that the physical measurement for a unit of oil is 16.7 microliters spread across a 12 inch by 12 (3.048 decimeters by 3.048 decimeters) inch square (in other terms 1one inch by 144 inches). It takes 50.7 microlites every 12 feet (3.6576 meters) and 150.3 microliters for a 36 foot (10.9728 meters) pattern. This, like Shame said, can vary slighlty by the amount of UV in the oil. The range of UV is 300 parts per million to 370 parts per million, which is nearly 20% difference across the scale. Most manufacturers aim for the midline (335 ppm) or slightly higher.
