  • Cleaning the lanes. How clean is clean?

Phoenix S, transfer brush, Navigate oil, wood lanes, was useing CX-4, Than switched to Defense C for better cleaning. Now the cold weather has been here for a few months, and having issues with carry down not getting off lanes. Stripper ratio is down to 6:1, readings show .4-1.7 units at 48 feet. House pattern is at 42 feet. Why such high readings? All Kegel products always been used<ie oil and cleaners, dustercloth, etc... any thoughts?

We had similar problem when we first opened. We cleaned them witha ratio of 4:1 a couple of times then went to 5.5:1 and have no problems. We are using Defense C and Infinity oil. Be sure your squeegee is clean and adjusted with the proper crush and angle. part of the problem could be a worn blades that are rounded off on the edge. Also make sure the hose that runs from the squeegee to the recovery tank is clear and clean. You could try turning the blades around until they could be replaced, that will buy you a little time possibly.
GO THE EXTRA MILE! IT'S NOT THAT MUCH FURTHER.

      1. If you are only stripping and oiling once per day 6-1 is not strong enough
      2. If you building is dirty than you lino paper could be clogged with dust etc. so it does not have a chance to get the lane clean - try lino dusting the lanes before stripping to and changing to 4-1 ratio

Squeegy blades are replaced twice a season ( 3 weeks ago) ,filters every 30 days, spray jets cleaned twice a week. Crush on blades is perfect. Have tried a stronger ratio, of 4;1 a little better, but still a bit week. Readings still above.4-1.2 units across lane. Just tried a new cleaner, called Oxyshock, from the same company that makes our ball plug, Tech-Line products. Mixed 10:1 and the residual is gone. After the first day, all boards below .5 readings, and alot of .2-.3s . Backends are strong again. Did Kegel change something in the formula of Defense C perhaps? Will et you all know as things progress, Sat. night classic league had 2-300s, and 4-1000 matches, high was 1095/4 game series.

Is the left over oil only in the center? With wood our lanes wood depress so much the foam cushion would'nt touch in the center of the lane. Stop the mach. half way down and (with a flashlight) look under and see if there is a pool of water all the way across. Mine had a foot with no pool. Kegel cloth was thiner and worse than the blue bruns. The cushion roller with the wrap fixed the problem.

Is your oil buffer lowering and raising as its supposed to? Maybe at the end of the froward distance it is not raising

              Hey Sportsmans

I have been using oxyshock at 10:1 for two years with no problems. We tried defence c because it was recommended from a very reliable source, and we had the same problems you do. Tried it for three weeks, even at 4:1 the backends were not totally stripped. Even went as far as raising the spray time and changing the distance. Just as you did, I re-checked the lane machine adjustments and all were fine. Switched back to oxyshock, got credit for remaining defence c, no problems since. I don't have an explanation, I hear great things about defence... but it didn't work for me AND oxyshock is cheaper, even not accounting for how much less I can mix the ratio. Also, I replaced the squeegee blades mid-season, and was able to use oxyshock 12:1.

off topic, but I've had a similar experience with Brunswick judge cleaner....I also mix 10:1 and end up with clean lanes and strong backends

I may be off base hear
if your machine is leaving a hint of oil 15 + 15 at 24' use a napkin to check for dirt if no dirt just oil

I would adjust machine and back off to 32' oil 39' buff and see wat happens

I have had work with some crappy machines over the years including an old [ red _ _ _ express ]

                    and still managed to get 8 to 10 oner scores 3 ,299 ,5 300s, 1 800 in one year i had machine

I believe if you are consisting as you do the lanes bowler can get used to them

                    just my humble opion
