• Which synthetic is better and why?

Of all the lanes out there, which is better...?
BRUNSWICK ANVILANE PRO --or-- AMF HPL?
Pros and cons? Thanks!

Re: Which synthetic is better and why?

You will probably get different opinions on this subject.

But It seems Pro Anvyl lane is the best glowing lane on the market as far as brightness anyways..
And i believe it's more durable, Probably because it's such a low friction surface...

HPL from my understanding is a high friction surface, which in my opinion can be a higher scoring surface...

But, Like i siad you will see different opinions but i think you get more bang for the buck with Anvyl pro...

Re: Which synthetic is better and why?

I have had Pro Anvilane for... going on 2 years this July 4th. Last year at bowl expo, I asked the Murrey International guys about lane friction surfaces between the manufacturers. I had concerns wheather I bought the best product, especialy since the scores in my house are so low.
So, normally I do not take a salesman at face value but since I was not buying or would be in the near future, I liked the words I heard. So I will pass them on here.
As I said, I was looking for friction characteristics between the manufacturers. High vs Low - Brunswick vs AMF vs everyone else. Although I didn't get a; AMF is ?blank? and Brunswick is ?blank? and we are ?blank? and etc. etc. What I did learn was that they are basicly the same materials in construction (and I mean the newer stuff, not the laminated stuff). The Murrey lanes are the same as "Big B", but different as to how they are put together, i.e. Anvilane has one piece panel connecting the approach/foul line/heads and Murrey splits the panel at the foul line between approach and the heads. So what I took home from that conversation, I did not buy a bad product. I have read 1000's of "Hang"-vilane posts bashing the product - in fun I am now sure.
My advice - give everyone a shot at competing for your business, go with the best deal, and buy American.

Cheers,
Steve

I have to find a way to get the house scores up, but that is not the lanes fault. Hope this helps.

Believe it or not, I have shot 300/800 on all Brunswick and Murrey surfaces.....no scores for me on AMF.

What I have heard...

AMF+... Higher consistent scores & less carrydown
AMF-... Less warranty and "sandwich" construction is poor

ANVIL+... Sturdier and lifetime warranty
ANVIL-... Lower scores/not as consistent

????????

Any agreements or disagreements to these?

135 award scores in the old palace rebuffes this theory.

Re: Which synthetic is better and why?

I own neither, but have bowled on both many times. HPL has more friction creating a natural wood feel. Pro-Anvil is very hard creating a smooth controlled hook, which (in theory) should be good. On my last tournament trip I had 2 low 600's on Pro Anvil and a 670 on HPL. Keep in mind this was a tournament condition, not standard house wall.

I do like the smooth consistency of the Pro-Anvil, but dont like the out of bounds on the outside. I also know (for a fact) there was very little oil on the outside during that tournament.

I like the natural hook of the HPL better. It felt like something you could put about 5 units on the outside and still have good reaction.

Remember, these are opinions of a neutral party, as I own neither. I do remember thinking how nice it would be to put out a shot on the HPL though.

King, the whole world knows how loyal you are to Pro-Anvil so we can see where you might have a slight bias. But if you got 135 honor scores out of Pro-Anvil, you could get 185 out of HPL if you gave it an honest try.

How about the hold-up, wear and tear, and any physical problems over the years of having ANVIL or HPL? How do they both hold up after say 5-8 years?

Based on what I hear and understand, Pro Anvil would have to hold up better than HPL in the long term.

Both should be fine a 5-8 years if you keep them clean and oiled. After 15 years the Anvil should be in better shape.

Shot is harder to maintain on Anvil then it is on HPL's. Speaking from experience.

Ultimate Ford VS Chevy argument. You can apply lane conditioner to the sidewalk for scoring. BUT- IMHO, pins will make more difference in scoring than the lane surface.

I also feel some houses have better scoring characteristics due to better topography...
Some also seem to have better pin carry due to the same reason, I seen a house near me have realy bad flat gutters, kickplates and all but carry way better than my house with new flat gutters with proper height...
