winsome pins with holes in them
posted a topic a few weeks ago about winsome pins and everybody said bad things about them which i now agree with, however it was confirmed when i cut one open at 4 1/2 inchs above base to find on one side they have boared 2 50mm holes into one side of pin then glued the 3 peices of wood on the side back on, this would probably explain the reason why they always fell over by themselves and was a different pin postion every time. so to me this makes the center of gravity not in the center of the pin is this true for me to assume?Tags: None

Re: winsome pins with holes in them
That might be the case with Windome Pins but unless you have a couple other makes of pin to compare with you will not be able to get an exact answer. Most pins with the exception of the Synthetic Twister pins hall have two hole inside them as that helps to cotrol the weight of the pins. If you read carefully you will see that the pins clearly ave the words control weight marked on them and the holes inside the pin are to help control the wieght.

Re: winsome pins with holes in them
ive seen the weight controled holes before, however these were done evenly around the pin, but these winsome pins have just had a back yard hack at them with a 50mm bore into one side (both holes are on same side as each other and one above the other)then you see the glue that they have used to stick one side of the pin back on, never seen it done this way. are these legal with all the weight out of one side? i wouldnt think so

Something else about Winsome pins...

Re: winsome pins with holes in them
Don't say too much about holes inside of the pins... I have cracked open many a pin that had holes in the middle... I think all of them do.
I know they weren't win-some pins... we never used them. The only pins that have ever been in the building are Brunswicks and (primarily) Amflites.
I actually think it's done to make the pins more evenly weight-distributed. If there weren't voids in the belly, they'd be bottom-heavy and basically "dead" when hit. With the voids, they are even or even slightly top heavy. Makes for better pin action.<span style="font-style: italic">Educatio est omnium efficacissima forma rebellionis</span>

Re: winsome pins with holes in them
I just got off the phone with Linds. I have a 12 lane house with less than 12 month old Linds. The way I read that is that anything manu'd AFTER Jan 06 is not certified. Linds transfered to 2 different people then they had to ask a 3rd and I was told "we will call you right back........."
All of them KNEW there was something wrong but no one was commenting or had an answer. I think this is a BIG issue, not a little "oh by the way" kinda thing!!!!
Lets see what happens.......

Re: winsome pins with holes in them
Ok, I obviously told them my name and center when I called but nothing more. The return call was in less than 30 minutes to the center. I called from my other office not the center. Message left on the voice mail was they have information and what "Mr Linds" is doing about it and I needed to and they would give me all the information.
Until I call in the morning, the way I see it is the way it is listed on bowl.com is "anything AFTER Jan 2006" I feel OK right now, I will let everyone know in the morning after the phone call.
Linds has been VERY good about everything so far and I would expect nothing less this go around. If you all remember back in late December I got a letter about some manu issues with Linds Pins and there would be more information in Jan 06. I called late Jan 06 and really got an answer of "nothing to worry about, we are working on it...." I am assuming the "issue" was the pulling of their certification.......????? None the less, I had a couple of pins with peeling paint rings around the neck and they told me absolutely no problems what-so-ever, I would get new pins to replace them.
Furthermore, I got one case out of the full set for 12 lanes that was "heavy" (vs. normal), Linds OVERNIGHTED me the replacement case of pins and issued a call tag for the wrong ones.
I have to stick up for Linds right now, they have been everything they have claimed with absolutely NO questions asked policy when I wasn't 100% satisfied. Lets see what morning brings.

4:1 Timing off..
*sigh* Hello friends..
I had a 4:1 go bad and I've never seen or done one before. Trying to search the depths of the forums, YouTube videos, it didn't seem too bad....

Adapting the Bluffton end cap & terminal board kit to Franklin BE (and FE) motors.
Left a rant about this in the bowling forum…
I’ve already repaired a a number of Franklin FE motors using the Bluffton-style end cap and terminal board kit (090-004-582)....

Turret clutch rebuild
At what thickness do you replace the clutch face.
Is there a minimum dimension from the clutch face to the rivet.
Thanks...
