  • Bowling Pins--to Refinish or not to Refinish?

I know this has been a topic before, but are people still taking the extra time and money to refinish pins these days? I ask because I have a run of Score Kings that are still great pins but looking a little rough. We have refinished pins in the past and got away from them because of the flaking off of the finish into my machines. I was going through National Pin in Seymour, WI, and I know of Clermont Pin Company, but what are anyone's thoughts of refinishing?

    Thanks

    There's also Done-Rite:

I have no experience with refinished pins - just remembered I'd seen the service on their site.

We use Donerite are pleased with the service. There is some minor very small chipping of the coating and it restores the original bright white look. Some of them have been coated more than once and you cannot tell which are muliple recoats. I think the aggressive ball covers accelerate the deterioration and darkening of the pins.

We get our birthday pins from them. Very pleased!

Just put 20 cases in from Done-Rite. Will keep eye on them for chipping. They do look nice and new though. They even fixed up the rings on the bottoms.

We sent in pins with minor nicks and damage just needed re painted and new glow rings. what we got back were not our pins what so ever. the pins we got were chipped and look horrible.

I am not a believer in pin refinishing - one for the above reason - many times you get back junk pins - and because I have had them flake off horribly in the machines before and create a mess

We tried them in just 2 lanes and in no time the machines looked like they had the worst case of dandruff possible!

Usually they fail internally before the need to coat. Use to be a practice before the Suryln pins. Surlyn does not promote adheasion to be recoated. Throw away pin now. Claremont recoats to make party pins. Thats about all their good for.
