  • Luster King

We have a Luster King that works pretty good for it's age. The problem is that after it's cycle finishes, the motor coasts so long that the wax block starts it's descent until it is almost touching the buffer wheel. Is there a break or retarder somewhere that I am missing?

Could be a couple things. The motor has 2 capacitors. One for starting, the other helps it stop by sending a momentary reverse voltage when the contactor drops. Look on the top set of contacts of the relay - there is a wire hooked on there that goes directly to the motor. So if the second cap can't charge, or the wire is off, or the contacts don't make a good connection - the motor coasts enough for the compound to advance back down the cam onto the buffer wheel. You can remove the screw that activates the micro switch and place it a half inch advanced and stop the motor - even if it does coast - before the cam even gets close to lowering the compound. Have to drill a hole for it, but I've done it.

Check rotation of gear with screw that triggers microswitch and move the screw hole backwards about a 1/2".

Thanks guys. I drilled a new hole and will see how that works. It still drifts to the point that the wax is touching the buffer, but not so hard that it kicks out the circuit breaker when it tries to start up.

Make sure you moved the screw to a position clockwise from where it was.
