Some people have different methods, before i had the transband carpet from bowling vision, i used to leave mine on the workshop floor and keep walking over it and then turning it around a few times a day to try and get rid of the box bend before installing it, then its the usual walking it in for a few minutes till it can make it on its own, not a job i miss!!!

Re: the arrow on the carpets
Most of my major work as far is changing carpets i do in the summer time when bus is a little slower. unless it rips or something major to it happens. but laying it outside in the sun for a couple hours will get it real soft so that it is easier to work with when putting it in and running it.Colossians 3:23

Re: the arrow on the carpets
For the original question, just remember the arrow points towards the rotation of the carpet. I saw awhile back on here someone who has a roller hanging on the wall and hangs the new carpet with another roller in the bottom of it for a day or two. Always thought that was a good way to break in a carpet.Failed safety course.Question #1:In case of fire what steps do you take? Apparently 'Friggin long ones!" is the wrong answer.

Re: the arrow on the carpets
When I install a carpet I let the backend motor just run the carpet for about an hour before actually running any pins or bowling balls in it. I use the ugly whites from stahls and they start up with no problems however I still let them run a little while anyway to get out any slight creases

Re: the arrow on the carpets
This past year, we had many new carpets to install that at times I would install the day they came in. (had a lot of the platinum carpets that either caused light balls to float around or would tear at the seams). Usually I would take the carpet out of the box right away and lay the cushion lay on the carpet while I was rebuilding the pit. If I have to take the carpet out, I go through and clean and service that area thoroughly because I don't like to have to go back and service that area any more than is necessary, so that gives the carpet about two hours with weight on it to help iron out the wrinkles for me.

Re: the arrow on the carpets
The arrow indicates the direction the carpet travels when it is installed in the machine.
I've had to walk-start the pumpkin/tans but now we use the clean-greens and I really like them, easy install and startup and (so far) no stretching. It's a strange kind of shiny vinyl material that I am still getting used to and, no directional arrow. I hope these do not end up like the pumpkin/tans, so many of those still to change.

Re: the arrow on the carpets
Good tip i got off here. Fit a small spring through the hole on the roller bracket and wrap it round the frame on the machine. The spring on the cushion start switch is just right. No more walking carpets. Once the carpets can run on their own take the spring out.

Re: the arrow on the carpets
The adhesive works as well from what I hear. Never actually tried it. I take a grinder to the rear roller to scuff it up real good and very lightly do the same to the front roller. have not had one stall on me yet. Ya gotta also make sure your hinges are in good shape and free to pivot on the stud. If those things are locked up on either side it could cause less tension on one side or the other and lead to either bad tracing or a carpet that stalls on you.
Tablejam- I installed my first clean carpet last week. I love it so far. If you look at the seam there is a darker side to the seam and a lighter side. i installed it with the lighter side of the seam on the pindeck side with the darker part of the seam leading towards the rear of the machine. I like how easy they are to clean. I am still a big fan of the Ugly Whites from stahls except for the fact that they are white. Why manufacture a pit carpet that is white? Curiousity has gotten me on that one.
