  • 8290XL Question

New to the 90XL. The pause at 0* of the table on respot... is annoying!

    My question...

Can I cam adjust this pause out? Or will that cause other problems.

Is the contactor acually opening and then closing to restart?

What the heck is that? Is it just this machine doing it? I wonder if the chassis is doing this because it thinks the sweep and table are going to interlock and it pauses the table to prevent this?

It almost looks to me that the sweep is a little 'late' like the timing is a little off in that when the sweep is at the 7-10 the table is already going to be up all the way and would have already started coming down, instead of starting down as the sweep starts to move forward or reaching the top as the sweep starts to move forward- early sweep (personally I like this setting better) and this is the chassis' way to compensate for this and prevent an interlock by pausing the table. Of course I really don't know at all cuz I've never touched these chassis but it sort of makes sense.

Just out of curiosity, what happens if the sweep is set to start running through a tad bit sooner?

I have yet to open one of these,

I don't know if there any 'contacts' inside!

TJ, They all run this way. After years on 70s.... it looks.... WRONG!!!

I agree it does look wrong, maybe that's inherent in this brand of chassis and maybe the true AMF chassis don't do this- of course I have no way to know.

I've briefly worked on 90XL's with AMF chassis and it didn't do this. Could I have overlooked it? Possibly but VERY unlikely. I don't remember them doing this at all. Woulda driven me nuts as well lol
All I want in life is to turn wrenches and climb around pinsetters/pinspotters again :/

              It's impossible to miss if you're a 70s guy.

What worries me... weather it has traditional contacts or solid staties, that stop will shorten their life!!
There's no need to stop there.

I was hoping another XL guy (or Ted, or BillyT) would shed some welcome light on this preponderant.

PC, that was my thought. (click/click) would wear like a sweep. I would hope the new stuff would be s.state. Is that like an aftermarket chassis or is that who is doing the upgrades?

That chassis is made by Zot. I have a friend there and I'll see what he has to say and let you all know Wed night.

And US Bowling slaps their logo on it. I have one to send in for repair too. No idea what wrong with it, left for me by the mechanic that I replaced. It's said to be warranty work thru USBowling.

I'm a bit scared sending a $2000 chassis out.... when will I get it back?!?! I have NO spare.

PC, I would try to test it before you send it. Like a MP some power outage or something like that can confuse this newer stuff and lock it up. Someone can mistake that as bad.

That won't happen with an OEM chassis. Looks like software to me. Give ZOT a call, if you need my help let me know!

Agree with Billy. We have 8290xl in another center with the silver chassis and I never noticed that. They were nice and smooth like my 70's. Does this problem exist on all lanes or just that pair?

Just my opinion, but there's a certain sticker on that chassis, that I've wanted to throw just about everything else that had that same sticker on it, in the garbage.

I've got 10 or so years on the 90xl and they don't do that with the stock AMF chassis. Also, get that contactor noise out of your head, it's not a 70
Change the chassis, is not the answer.
