  • Poly V and weather

Has anybody else had this problem besides me? In the cold of winter some of the poly V dist belts were so tight that I almost could not pin them together with the belt tension spring off.I also had to run the distributor with no linear spring to keep the clutch at an acceptable tightness but as soon as the heat of summer showed up in my pit those same belts were now loose and needed the spring put back on or the carriage would stay all the way back after the 9 pin This was a real bother as at the beginning of the cold, hot, hot cold of spring could not make up its mind the spring was on and off and on to keep the dist running right.

And I don't like the suggested cleaning method of the poly v, I have been told just wipe with a dry rag... to me that is simply smearing the muck on the belt not removing it...

Mine do OK with the dry rag method but what pile of crud comes from out of the grooves.

The pile of crud is the reason I switched to the splawn gray belt. Although there still lies the issue of loosing it's grip because it absorbs oil. But they run great for a year or more.

I have had the AMF white for over 4 years( how long I have been there) and only replaced 1.
Sometimes we have to do stuff to get by....Just go back and do it right when the "by" has passed!!

Minus the shedding those are pretty good, too bad you can't get them no more.

I've had a dozen for about 2 yrs. and they seem to get less grippy. I still have'nt had it cause any problems. I can see with new pins and some oils that many belts could have issues.

This issue is with about 4 or 5 of almost 30 of them so it is random with the shrink of winter.

I had a 4:1 go bad and I've never seen or done one before. Trying to search the depths of the forums, YouTube videos, it didn't seem too bad....

Is there a minimum dimension from the clutch face to the rivet.
