  • MP Chassis buzz

    Is there any one thing that would cause the all the relays to buzz, even BE and ball check relay.
    If it cant be fixed with a hammer, use a bowling pin.

    I would suspect a power supply issue like the transformer or a diode gone bad supplying the relays with dirty power or not enough or the right AC or DC source. Just my thoughts I am a SS Chassis guy. I have plugged a AC relay into what was supposed to be a DC relay and it was buzzing like crazy, then I found out that that socket needed a DC relay and had no problems. Since all of your relays are buzzing that is why I suspect the operating power supply to those relays.

      Relays are all AC in an MP chassis. If you reprogram or pull the power and then plug back in will it still happen? Will the problem move with the board and what kind is it?

        Its not the board.

          Alright then....are the relays 240, 120 or 24 vac? If they are 24vac then I would check to power to make sure it hasn't dropped, if so I would suspect a transformer.

            They are 24vac. I have changed a few components in chassis with same outcome and contemplated the transformer. I will change it and report back, thanks all.

                Do you still have rectifiers in Mgr control box? A bad or shorted rectifier caused this for me.

                  T-1 Transformer

                  Black = 120 VAC input
                  Blue = 24 VAC
                  Yellow = 24 VAC
                  Red = 12 VAC
                  Green = 18 VAC (not used - taped off)

                  The voltages will read higher than listed with no load, but this is a good way to see if it is OK.
