Gearboxes should make very little to no noise. What kind of noise is it making?
If it can't be fixed with a hammer, try a bowling pin! They're heavier and more surface area for whacking!

Might just be the bearing at the top of the rotor shaft. Had more than one of these.

Dose it sound like fingernails down a chalk bored, a 12 year old girl screaming or the sound someones face would make if it were being dragged along a tarmac road at 60 MPH? Regardless a gearbox shouldn't make much more than a very light humming noise.

Is it a National motor/box that makes that normal chatter/growl when it free wheels. (table going down)

One thing I can think of that will make a gearbox noisy is lack of oil.

                  Good morning,
I have built a tester for the MP Chassis for the 82-70 machines. Instead of using the cam switches
I am using relays. My question is to anyone that may...

                  *sigh* Hello friends..

I had a 4:1 go bad and I've never seen or done one before. Trying to search the depths of the forums, YouTube videos, it didn't seem too bad....
