  • Distributor adjustments

    hey all,

looking for the tolerances and measurements for the distributors. such as for the clutches, parallel adjustments and what not. i tried the search function and came up dry. thanks in advance.

clutch tension is 3/4 - 1 turn on the spring. Parallel adjustment has to be even from front to back. Stop blade not touching the pinion gear. that's some to start
    Thanks,
    Rick

House you will find the distributor a well running piece of equipment! The other thing that you will find is that almost anything that goes wrong with the distributor can be attributed to crappy pin orientation and non smooth turning at the pan.

          LIKE!

Even if the distributor adjustments are a little off, if there is good pin orientation it will still run nicely.

This is the only pure evil of the 82/70 design.

I can too but crappy pin orientation is at the top of my list, wait, actually no, I don't really have as much of a problem with anything else. The one thing I am always fighting is pin orientation. And just when you think you finally have it right the machine lets you know you are wrong.

Other than pin orientation I can't think of any real issues with a 70/90 etc, and now even with these new amani grip dizzy belts in conjunction with belt risers I don't have much of an orientation issue with my machines..

A simple way I start with the dist rail alignment is to make sure the top 2 eccentric rollers offset are positioned the same by using the 1/2" wrench clock position the same front and back - should get you real close to being parallel, then do the bottom front last to get a slightly snug adjustment - one where you can spin the rollers with little effort, and the dist does not try to extend or collapse when you turn them.

At mechanic school my wise instructor (Mr. Isbell) told us very few things go wrong with the distributor, which is absolutely true, and in my experience its almost always something else causing it problems.
