  • ball return issues

okay i have a ball return that wil run fine for me but when i get league bowlers on it it almost appears to kick into like a safety mode a ball will hit the first wheel then just shut off traping the ball inbetween the two wheels then it will start up again with the three beeps and shut off again and just repeat this over and over. I thought it was the safety switch so i disabled it but she is still acting up. Ive been a mechanic now for about a year but im no stranger to the industry please any help would be greatly appreciated.

I assuming an AMF return since you posted in the amf forum. Is the motor actually stopping or is the bottom wheel stopping and the motor is still turning?
Giving bowlers less to complain about, one lane at a time

If you have c90 / options ball return

Could be one of a few things, loose wire on control box, causing ball return to shut off. Worn rails, causing the ball to stall between the two rails and wheels.
Unplug the power, put a 16 pound ball in the ball return, and pull the belt by hand so it lifts the ball through the ball return. If it pulls a 16 pound ball through no problem, I'd be looking at a loose wire. If the ball gets stuck, then one of your rails or wheels may need looking at. If the rail is worn you can swap the LH & RH around so the worn bit is on the outside.

they are the AMF PROfile ball returns, and yes every thing stops along with the motor, starting to think i have a motor thats about to kick it.

I would try the wires and then swap the board. If it is trying to start but keeps stopping and beeping then the motor should be good. If it was the motor it would trip the overload not start and stop the board.

I have had a few of the fuse holders break loose. Not off but enough to lose contact.
Sometimes we have to do stuff to get by....Just go back and do it right when the "by" has passed!!

Do you have V wheels or tires? About 5 years ago I started having issues with just league bowlers and ball returns. The house balls were no problem but something about new high performance coverstocks gave them too much grip going thru the urethane v wheels and urethane track liners that they would wedge transitioning between top and bottom and stop everything. Trip the motor resets and everything. I switch to tires and haven't had a problem since.

Same here. I can run one tire and one V but with two V's they jam.

It could simply be particular balls that are causing the problem.
if it runs fine with normal play and house balls, maybe worth checking it out.
Could be they are undersize or oversize or a particular brand.
