  • A sweep with a mind of its own......

Well i want to start by saying how much i appreciate everyones help up to this point with resolving these issues i have at the house i took over..... this issue has me scratching my head. RANDOMLY my # 8 lane will get ahead of itself and the sweep will come down with the players ball not even half way down the lane. And its very random it only did it 3 times during league last night, and that was the first instance i know of this happening to it? any suggetions?

Many things can cause this. You will need to determine a pattern.

First, does 8 randomly cycle when lane 7 is on as well? If so we might be looking at a mis-aligned/loose ball detect head. A cycle is issued to both lanes of the pair when a ball hits a loose capping (or kickback nose) on a poorly mounted ball detect head.

It can also be a loose or grounding cycle cable underlane when a ball rolls over a cable. Similarly, it can be a cable or wire within the power lift tray's cycle buttons or electronics' box (if so equipped) grounding from vibration.

Usually, these types of occurences happen from an outside cycle source such as above. Best way is to isolate these sources one at a time until it stops, then investigate.

yes 7 was also being used due to league play, unfortunately i do not recall if someone had just rolled a ball down 7 before this occurance. 8 did continue to cycle itself for 2 to 3 full cycles after the sweep inititally came down.

Check your cycle cables going from pinsetters, underground to your power lifts. See if there are any strewn about the track getting run over by bowling balls.

found a new issue with 8 the ground wire wasnt attached so i grounded it now it wont register any ball at all or the machne wont shut down or even cycle in manual mode? so lost right now

Which ground wire? Grounding the Mgr. Control circuit will result in Instructomat mode and it will not cycle, it supposed to do that. Again, which ground wire?

there was a green ground wire that is connected to all the other "sensors" the no cycle issue was me getting ahead of myself and not plugging the motors back in after i removed power since i was laying on the deck. after reconnecting the ground i bowled games on both lanes at the same time and had no further issue from a premature sweep. i do still feel the ball detect sensor might be bad as the LED on the lane 8 side stays solid while all the rest flash

If it stays solid, it is probably out of adjustment. Need to adjust the ball detect head to have a good alignment with both reflectors. Lights should flash as fast as possible.

The detector could also be responding to kickback vibration. Once the detector has been adjusted, take a pin and bang the kickback of lane 7 to see if lane 8 cycles.

                    This is a good test.

If it is the small square black box type of detector, then alignment is critical and lights should flash.
If it is the long flat oblong type, then the lights should be constant, this is the type used on the xli.
