  • rear roller mount

The half moon mount on the bds busted out. First one that i have had to do, they are not fun. Pulling pit, plow, drilling new holes, grinding old mount off, putting out a fire, bolt new mount on.

I did have a large towel in the machine catching all the sparks but didnt have anything between the machines. Stopped grinding and could see smoke. Luckily I had a cup of water with me so it got put out quick. went and got another wet towel to put in there.
Sometimes we have to do stuff to get by....Just go back and do it right when the "by" has passed!!

Yep, can be an extreme PITA on the rare occasion when they break - sounds like you've got it covered bolting it back in (high tensile bolts all the way!). At least you now know that particular half-moon will last!!

They changed that on a 90 to a bolt on part. Obviously due to this happening. I got into a habit of every pit I pulled I changed them to bolt on. Much easier to drill the holes in the right place with it still in one piece.

What a stupid arse design as every one that I have ever seen in any of the four locations ALL have bolt holes and no bolts.

Obviously not an approved method but I've had one go on me and bent a fender washer into shape and drilled and bolted it in place until I'm ready to pull the full pit for maintenance.

I have beat the old one back into place and bolted the new one over it for extra strength

              Done that.

Never understood why, as well as some other parts that will eventually fail, were welded on the machine. I can usually do one of these without pulling the pit, just get rid of the rear roller and small plow and you can get in there with the grinder and drill.

I think the best part was the rear roller was only a couple months old. just about cut the shaft in half.

That's why I always highly recommend to anyone that prior to doing this job you thoroughly vacuum the entire area, under carpet area, between kickbacks all the way from the back up to the tail plank. Was your towel heavily soaked in water? That's what I do in areas that will collect sparks, when I use a towle etc I douse it heavily in the good old H2O.....

Pay a chaser to sit there with a fire extinguisher is never a bad idea either.

I'll hold the extinguisher and the chaser can grind the holder.

I had a 4:1 go bad and I've never seen or done one before. Trying to search the depths of the forums, YouTube videos, it didn't seem too bad....

Left a rant about this in the bowling forum…

At what thickness do you replace the clutch face.
Is there a minimum dimension from the clutch face to the rivet.
