  • Distributor steel roller

the roller i speak of is on the opposite side of the eccentric/concentric rollers. i have Accuscore Plus, is it essential i keep the steel roller there or will a normal concentric roller be fine? ive heard of others doing this, but the topic of scoring wasnt discussed. i have read in the QAMF manual that it is needed for AMF scoring. is it for static discharge as like the bonding straps on the bounceboards? i havent tried a concentric there, just wondering your guys thoughts. reason being is because i have to order spares if i need the steel roller in place.

    thanks in advance.

they are there for static discharge. Unless someone esle want to chime in. I never ran without. Beside the I have never had to replace one, the other side is a different matter.

most of mine don't have the steel ones, been on since I started, I also don't think I've ever had to change that one. I also used to have Accuscore Plus and we never had any ill effects, maybe I'm lucky though or we did have issues not knowing that was the cause lol.

I wouldn't run without them. They're cheap enough to use so the scorers don't have another reason to start acting up, or lose an expensive component due to static charge/buildup.

I'm sure wb8yjf can chime in here and list his experiences with the aftermath of staic damage.

          Oh my!

Qubica scoring does not call for this but it certainly would not hurt to have them. Any version of AMF scoring, AccuScore through BOSS and probably MagicScore requires these to be in place for static discharge.

I have Qubica scoring, and Jamie from Stahls recommended that I put them on anyway.

I did'nt have them but now I do. (also the grounding strap on the bounce plate) trying to stop some glitchy intermittent cycling on my mendes. My old Bruns. AS-80 didn't care.

My thinking is, if you need table wiring you should use them. But that's just an assumption.

Since I put new tubes on over half of my dist. carriages I did not want them torn up by the metal roller. What I did was to switch to the metal brush that is used on the 82-90 pin wheel. I attach it using the bolt that holds the roller on the #7 pin side and bend it around till the brush makes contact with the tube. I use a eccentric roller in place of the metal one and this now allows me to level the carriage side to side so the belt can track better.

I really think it depends on your geographical location. I ran without them with no problem. I also remove pit grounding straps. I'm in California and we don't seem to have static electricity.
If it cant be fixed with a hammer, use a bowling pin.

That's funny, cuz Mike told me that we didn't need them???

Yeah, I seem to remember that they banned static electricity back in the eighties when a state legislator zapped herself on her refrigerator.

Let me rephrase: of course we have static electricity in California. We just dont have the buildup of static from carpets.

That is what I do but fashion my own from a carpet bonding strap. I don't like the metal rollers they like to chew away at my carriage tubes.
