  • Mystery frame holes??

I was pacing on the machines today during league and I noticed a few of the machines had these 4 holes above the sweep torque tube.

Anybody know what those holes were for? Could It have something to do with the "A" roll over bin maybe?

If your machines show serial numbers, anything before 95,151 was a 70A. Offhand, I'm not sure what those holes are!

I have some old machines but I don't remember seeing those holes.

Watching the vid you can't see enough of the front of the bin to tell.

Maybe it would show it in the A manual?

Good guess but no. These 4 holes look like they are in the center right behind the RS plug. The respot solenoid mounting 'plate' used the 4 holes on the 7 side under the box beam- the same holes the bracket for the spot/respot arms mount to on single solenoid machines, plus two holes right above that and on the front of the machine.

You can see the two bolts on the front of the machine here...

At this point I would guess it was for the roll over bin.

The A parts manual doesn't show this. There's a picture, but that area is obstructed. By the way, 90008 would be the ninth 82-70 ever produced! It's probable that it has something to do with the original rollover bin. What chassis are you guys running?

Actually those four holes are where the distributor drive motor was mounted on the old A machine. It was out in front of the machine and the bin motor was to the left of it.

Oooops. My mistake. That is where the bin drive assembly mounted. The bin motor and distributor motor were mounted to the rear of the machine. Am I loosing it or what? 40 plus years takes its toll on the old brain sometimes.

Everything related to the bin drive was on the rear of the bin, motor and all the drive linkages and he dist drive asy, nothing on the front. I'll be doing some more checking soon and I'll pass on any info.

If you'll look at the rear side of the Cross Beam's vertical members, you'll see more unused holes. All these holes were for the mounting of the rollover bin assembly, A-machine. The original "A" side frames and frame braces were different, also. The upper side frame rails did not extend rearward past the rear-most vertical member. Conversion from "A" involved adding a special 1-1/2" square tube piece on an angle toward the rear to support the new Bin. Any machines that were factory rebuilt got new side frames, but on-site conversions did not.
