  • Chattering sweep relay

We have a machine that when the sweep drops from "0" to 1st guard position,, the sweep relay rapidly pulls in and out until the sweep stops at guard. The relay does not chatter the rest of the sweep cycle. Two weeks ago, we changed the sweep switches thinking it would cure the problem, but it resurfaced again this evening. The problem seems to happen when the lane is first activated and some times improves or goes away the longer the machine is used.
We have 82/70's with Omega tek chassis with expander boards. Any input would be helpful!

When I have run across this it was a problem with the managers control circuit. Either that or the mask circuit has a short or grounding issues. To verify unplug the a&mc plug on the front and jump the middle two pins that are together, this will isolate the machine and turn it on. If the problem stops then its not the machine.

A chattering sweep contactor from 0-66 only usually indicates it is trying to run the sweep during an instruct o mat condition which can be caused by the managers control or mask circuits grounding. This can be caused by damaged cables, frame meter problems, or with AccuScore I believe an LIU board problem.

Exactly what I would have suggested TJ!!
You know, if my dog was as ugly as you. I'd shave his butt and tell him to walk backwards

Thirded! You can pull off the gray wire on T2 and tape it off if you don't use instrcuctomat or at least try it if you do and see if the issue stops, I think it would. Or you can jump the A&MC plug on the machine to eliminate all front end wiring. I forget off hand which terminals to jump but I'm sure someone will chime in with that info

On the a&mc plug jump the two that are next to each other in the middle row to turn it on as seen here...

Thanks for the info. As luck would have it, I turned the machine on after league to start looking for the problem and, you guessed it, it was running fine with no chatter! I guess the 70's are more like the 30's than I thought!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you find the problem or did it just go away?

The problem vanished.......but last night our Accuscore Plus was really confused. I'm beginning to think the two problems are related and the relay issue was the front runner of more things to come. I will post again when I have more history to go on. Thanks for the info!
