  • Snappy cups

Hi guys I'm new on here n think the site really good so im just wondering if anyone has any tips to stop the cups snapping forwards when table goes into spotting ??

  • #2
There are 2 springs on the back row of cups and one by the 5 pin cup. When you loosen them do so slowly because they are under pressure and you only want to move them a little at a time. Keep them all adjusted the same.
Sometimes we have to do stuff to get by....Just go back and do it right when the "by" has passed!!

I thought springs at first too but I thought they had an impact on the cups snapping back...still trying to figure out what would cause the cups to snap forward. Bad hanger or springs in the front? Lack of tension on the yoke springs?
Failed safety course.Question #1:In case of fire what steps do you take? Apparently 'Friggin long ones!" is the wrong answer.

When I got to my place almost all the tables were throwing pins forward. I like to respot pins from on top when there needs to be multiple pins and if I took out a single pin the lack of weight would send the rest of them flying. After adjusting all the springs I can set a single pin if I wanted.

I had the same issues, I set them thru the machine as well. I still had a few that would snap a little if no pins were in the cups but with at least 1 pin they were fine. I'd guess yoke springs as well. They will cause the cups to jerk both ways, I've seen them snap forward (usually) and also rearward due to mis-adjusted yoke springs. A cup rubbing could do it as well
All I want in life is to turn wrenches and climb around pinsetters/pinspotters again :/

Smurtland is correct - you need to take some of the tension off the cup rotation

Assuming the cups are not rubbing the yoke and the yoke springs are OK depending on how the spotting adjustments have been done they can tilt smoothly or badly. If the problem is not something obvious then I would go over or re do the spotting adjustments.

Its amazing what good spotting and table adjustments will do.

A clear video of this problem happening might shed more light on what is going on.

That's good, glad it was something easy, amazing what a difference those springs can make.

Glad you got it, after table adj. I always put just one pin in a cup and make sure it will set good.

Last night I had 2 lanes having intermittent problems dropping random pins. Watching it, the cups would hesitate a little bit when flipping forward to spot, causing the pins to fall forward when it set them. They would flip half way, hesitate, then go all the way. Problem was the spring next to the 5 cup broke. Adding tension real quick to the back springs got me through the league.

I havent changed one of those springs in over a year. First call I got was lane 18, not even 15 mins later I get the same call on lane 13. The same spring was broken! what are the odds of that

Parts of a certain age will all break at the same time - sucks
