  • 90XLi Edge advice

    So guys.

I know there are very few sites in the UK running the 90XLi Edge, however, I have had the great opportunity and I am now Chief Tech in a new build, running brand new Edge machines.

Those of you over the water with first hand experience of this machine, do you have any tips or advice? Any peculiarities that would be useful for me to be aware of?

My background is all in 70s, so I am new to the steel tables etc too. But after setting all the tables up over the past week they seem much nicer and easier to work on that the old aluminium tables of the 70s.

    Many Thanks.

Centre is not yet open. I do not wish to post photos yet until the centre is open for public. But, you will get to see at the earliest opportunity that I can.

They really are an amazing piece of kit, hopefully once we have power into the them. I will see them running.

My advice would be to install a home cinema into the workshop.

A center near me has them. The only major differences are the xli chassis and the fact that you have to remove the whole backend of the machine such as the elevator to pull a pit. That's the only complaint I've heard from them so far.
Give me a hammer and some duct tape and I can fix it!

                  Quick update on this.

As a background, I've come to these from a 70s MP Chassis site, and must say that these machines are amazing.

                  Steel tables vs Aluminium?

The steel is extremely easy to set up, and very smooth, the respot action is a hell of a lot more positive. The actuators on the steel table also make set ups a doddle, and very easy to get a consistent set up on the table from different mechanics across the house.

                  New pin wheel?

Well, not so much a wheel, but a lift, it is a chain, with "flight cups" attached directly too it, they're a circular bracket that the pin seats in. This should eliminate all slop that plagued the old pinwheels. Had only 2 lift jams, but take seconds to sort, as the "kidney pan/pin guide rail" replacement is spring loaded and can be pulled straight out.

                  The Distributer?

Got to say, this is very impressive, no head first pins yet, don't see any way they can happen either, as the body of the pin is sat on the orientor before it reaches the exit so is well seated and held till the pin body rolls over the drop.

                  New black cam?

Seems to require a little more tension than the old white one, however this may also be due to the machine being new and parts still wearing in. However, where you needed to set clutch tension on the white cam to overcome the stalling between the 7 and 8, this now is gone, but there is a similar issue now between the 2 and the 4, and the clutch needs to be set to overcome this.

I will keep this updated as the machines run, but so far, I'm loving them!#

I don't have them, but sat in on one of the installations here, in Chicago. A few things to note: Removing the Performance Pin Elevator for pit work is a snap! Two people recommended, but one can handle it easily - - very light weight. No plows or apron - - all pin guidance into the lift is handled by the plastic plows mounted on the front panel of the lift. Also, a new type of carpet belt support on the ball door side kickback (replacing that side's angle) and a pin deflector.Pin coming out of the orientor pan is always butt-first, with the BOTTOM of the pin landing on the belt, not the belly. No roll-overs. PERFORMANCE CAM & LEVER (Offered as an upgrade kit for all 82-70 thru XLi distributors): Entirely redesigned Linear Motion side which keeps the carriage forward for the 2 & 3 drop-off (better for the Durabin; not so much for steel bins). The lateral drive (outside) side of the cam has been improved to create a "ramping up and down" of distributor lateral travel speed, reducing or eliminating wobbling at the stops, especially at the #2. PIN DAMAGE: Virtually none. The only metal that the pins touch are respot cell fingers, spotting cups, trip arms, and the occasional flying pin that hits the table. QAMF now offers a complete Performance Pin Distribution package for all 82-90 thru XLi (any machine with rear-mounted chassis/no control box). No price yet. It supposedly includes the Pin Elevator, all distributor upgrades (including new clutch plate and pinion thrust washer), and Durabin.

                      Good morning,
