  • 8270A Capacitor Question

Looking through the 8270A parts manual it shows 5 capacitors in the front end, of course 2 for the sweep and 2 for the table but what is the other one for? Can't be the back end because it has it's own. Could this be for the distributor drive or bin motor? Not sure what else this could be for.

If I remember correctly it was for bin rollover. The 82-70A was a fun machine. It had a motor to roll the plastic bin cups and a motor and cam assy.to move the distributor and a stepper assy just to operate the dist. The A was only out 1 year then came the B. Same basic chassis but with the later bin and shuttle

You have had experience with these?

I may have more questions so I may be asking you.

And thanks for the answer, I figured it was one of those motors.

It's Jim Wentz himself! You bet he has experience with these machines. If I remember correctly, Jim installed the original 82-70 at a whole slew of colleges and universities in 1963, and then spent the next year converting all of them to B's. By the way, Jim, the stepper chassis you sent to the Moose Exchange is running its tail off. Can't thank you enough!

It was for the CBM capacitor. Some of my pinsetters actually still have the "CBM" stamped on the strap that covers the wireway caps.

Did the distributor not have capacitor starting and braking? Or was that a smaller capacitor in the chassis or on the stator itself?
