• pinwheel/ring tube removal?

ok here's one for you guys to laugh about....please be gentle. i had to replace the ring tube weldment on a machine the other day. i beleive that there is a right and a wrong way to do this.....i think i discovered the wrong way i ended up taking the pinwheel off first, then the rear guard for the pinwheel off then loosening the upper rollers for the ring tube. removal wasn't too bad however reinstallation was another story. pleaase tell me this was not the typical or right way of doing this. also after i installed the new ring tube it would not seat properly on both of the bottom guide rollers. is there any adjustment for these or are they stationary?

thanks,
alex

Don't know if this is the "right" way but I first support the pinwheel with a block, then remove the rollers. I then remove the rear gaurd. This gives me total access to rhe ring tube. I then reverse the procedure when done. It goes pretty smoothly and takes about 30-45 minutes.

Oh thank you so much! I've got a roller going to hell, and have never taken that stuff apart. That helps bigtime!

I've always wondered why there are circular cuts in the guard and support bracket around the roller bolts on many of my machines...

I'd imagine that the top roller outside the wick is the one that dies most often, as it is the last one to get lube.

Mreessr - this is the way I do it too, but I add one more thing. I stop the pinwheel with one of the pinholders at TDC, loosen the bolt and tie a wire from the bolt to the bin for extra support at the top of the pinwheel.

Great idea, Pitboss. Here's another for support: clamp the belt to the wheel with a vise-grip, just after the point where the belt leaves the wheel groove (toward the motor). The belt will hold the wheel in place.
Shamey: the ring tube does not fit tightly into the lower rollers. The lowers are only a guide. However, there are guys out there experimenting with adding spring tension to those lowers to stabilize the wheel. Equip,

The sprimg sounds like a hell of an idea. Just let the roller pivot off one bolt? I might try this.

Oh, I did. Bigtime. Ouch.
Funny (or more appropriately SCARY) thing is, I don't remember it at all!
And NO, I WASN'T DRUNK! AT ALL!
In the morning, just saw myself in the mirror on the way to the toilet and jumped 5'. HOLY CRAP, there's an extra hole in my head! That wasn't there last night!
This seriously is some scary s**t!

Only explaination I can come up with:
I haven't changed my sheets since most recent laying. Consequently, all the crap falling off of me has made the sheets quite hard. Maybe in my tossing and turning, I acquired a "sheet burn." That wouldn't explain my recent stupidity, however. That had to be caused by a cuncussion, which I DO NOT remember, nor do any of my friends, who are laughing heartily at my injury.
Dammit!
