  • 82-8 foul light replacement

I started replacing these pesky old farts with Zot conversions. They are terribly ugly and I'm not happy with the way the reflector mounts on the small cover. Is there another system that is better than this?

      ffejbowl,
Is the 82-8 the new AMF foul unit?
We just got 24 units in yesterday.

82-8's are the first foul lights from AMF I believe. If you watch the Flintstones they were in Bedrock Bowl.

82-8's used vacuum tubes & had the relays in them covered with a green "mason jar"! Kinda cool to look at, but not many left!
I've had enough of hope & chains.

Such a "lovely" unit. How could anyone that had them forget the 6SN7 vacuum tube.

                Dutch,
The newest AMF foul unit I know of is the Radaray Universal. I just left a house a few months ago that had 20 of them. They worked great and are very simple to adjust.

I've had 82-8"s for forty years. Ed Marshall converted the wall boxes to solid state about five years ago. We replace about twenty 1154 bulbs a month, but they still keep on ticking. ( 48 lanes ) A new foul light system has been ordered, but I don't know what type. Summer project-I hope!

                    Re: 82-8 foul light replacement

I've installed 24 of AMF's infra-red foul light unit. If you are relacing 82-8's you will have to cut your capping and run power and lamp cord wire to foul line. They fit exactly like 82-120's.The only problems have been with the terminal blocks and afew transformers had a leg break off. In both cases the foul light would foul when stepping on the line but it wouldn't send voltage to machine to trigger foul cycle. The terminal block can be fixed by running a jumper wire. The transformer has to be relaced. It is soldered to the board.Could be a little hard to find transformer. It is much better than the 8's or 120's.I hardley even know they are there. That is unless they kick the common housing off the floor. What can you say, BOWLERS.
