westinghouse gearboxes?

for starters, i'm a brunswick mechanic, so excuse me if this question sounds stupid. i've been sent to another house that our company owns to help fix it up. imy knowledge of amf is minimal but mainly i'm there to organize the backend and create a maintenance program for them....anyway i found 5 westinghouse gearboxes laying on the floor in the corner. theytold me that it's cheaper to buy a new gearbox intead of repairing them. they said that you can't get parts for them anymore. is this true? or is it just another way the mechanic has found to get out of doing any work? thanks for your help in advance, shamefowjze

Stahl's 70s also supplies all the parts you need for the gearboxes, costwise it depends on whats wrong as to wether it was better to buy new gearboxes, I can tell you what Stahl's prices are for gears and all and you can compare with a replacement to see what was the right move.

JCP also has alot of the parts you're looking for. Prices are about 20% cheaper too.

well our problem is solved...my boss is getting the 90 upgrade. if i've learned anything from working at this center it's this....it doesn't pay to do my job. if i let everything go to hell at my center, i'll get all the upgrades i want! but i do think he's getting rid of the mechanic.

I havent done it myself yet, but I believe AMF will either exchange or repair your gearboxes for less than half the cost of a new one.
