• Bin/Shuttle-Table Safety

After reading about some accidents(did think of it before)I am wondering why there isn't a safety switch(ore more) on the bin, wich will put the machine off if there's more inbetween the table and the bin than a set of pins. Beside saving a mechanic it might also save your yokes if a pin stays upright when the table is going upwards. Did anyone think about this before and make something work..?

Just curious..

lampie, I know Stahl's 70's makes one. I put a couple of them in a couple of years ago. I was fairly inexpensive (that I can remember anyway) and it worked well. I still would'nt want to get stuck in there though!!!

Right, ED. The Stahl's kit will black out the machine, but you still have no way to get out unless someone cranks the table, hopefully in the right direction!!

If I can make a choice between getting stuck between a machine with safetyswithes on the bin or without, I know what option I would like more! But besides that: what is the most common cause of breaking yokes(changing one because of a jam in that area is not my favorit hobby)

BowlEquip...Brunswick machines pose the same problem...a safety switch that shuts off the machine if there is a jam between the deck and the turret. If (and I hope nobody ever does) someone gets caught there, they may not die, but they will have to wait around untill someone comes and backs the machine up. Having that safety switch does make you have fewer nightmares. If I worked on 70's, 90's or 8800's, I would install those switches ASAP.

Golly! I've never considered that. The proper term for such a switch is "interlock." Yes that's right, interlocks are used in other industries to protect people, not just machinery.
I have a hard time understanding though. Seems like anybody interested in not becoming play-doh would pull the russel-stoll before getting in there. But then, I suppose some people don't use much forethought. Good idea, I'll have to get a Stahl's catalog. (catalogue)
