5-7-10 splits

It's me and I am back again. I have been working at this house for over two and a half seasons now. When I started there were five lanes that would constantly have 5-7-10 splits. I went through and adjusted the pindecks and maxed out the angle that we can have from the head pin to the 10 pin. This took care of the problem on 4 out of five of them.

For a while we had no 5-7-10's. In the past few weeks one lane has been bad. I increased the angle, pushing the ABC limit to no avail. The pins are on spot. But we are getting a lot of these splits. Guys the pin carry even looks different than any other lanes I have seen.

What is not right? Is there any other place that I can check?

We are thinking that maybe where the lane and the pin deck meets there may be a problem. We are going to pull the deck tomorrow any ideas on what we can look for. Thanks for the help guys.

Pat,

Do you have synthetic decks?
If you do, adjust it so the leading edge is flush with the lane surface. Another thing that will cause bowlers to leave "fruit" is too long of an oil pattern or backends / lanes not stripped well or often enough.

I have this problem every winter when it starts freezing and the humidity is dropping.The reason is that my full synthetic pindeck will stay at the same hight and my lanes are lowering a little bit caused by the crimping wood under the overlane. I have to lower the pindecks allmost every winter and put them a little higher when the humidity is getting higher again. I've learned to live with this, I don't have a good solution for this, hoping for better airconditioning.

King I have 8270 B machines and dura deck pindecks.

We have not changed you oil pattern and we only go just past 32 feet. On this machine the leading edge on this lane is more flush than the pin decks on the other lanes around it. The flat gutters are at the legal minimum. The nice thing here is that the decks and flat gutters are easy to adjust. I do not know what more I can do we are really pushing the limits on these measurements.

Can the lane edge be not very secure and causing the problem. Can we chauk (put something between the lane bottom and the concrete) the lane edge and make it more secure, just a thought.

WQhen they installed your decks they should have done the following:

1. Screwed down the lane in at least 3 places within 6 inches of where the deck is being replaced.

2. Put a metal spline in the wood the add integrity and keep the wood from "piano keying"

Mention the problem to your lane maintenance expert (supplier, resurfacer) and ask for additional advice. Problem may be in your conditioner pattern, also, especially with oil to 32'. If your lane finish is slick enough that the balls don't actually "snap" in the back end, it may be a rollout problem. Most of the time, though, it's caused by the ball hitting the pins too high up on the belly.

This is only on one lane. We have tried other oil patterns and this one lane is the only problem. I am thinking that it is the pin deck or a problem with the end of the lane. We also have guardian to the end of the lane.

We are small town and I spend a lot of time getting rubber ball marks off the approach. Averages are up and we have a decent condition and decent back ends.

I know it sounded like a stupid ????? but...
The reason I asked was I also had the same problem a few back and I would look at the spotting a hundred time's and everything was OK,but.....when I wasnt looking(dam machine) the head pin was going off spot to the left. I have 30's and there is a collar that lock's the table tube's in place...well mine was loose! [img]/content/btubb/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img]

Thanks Ed,

I will check that out. I have not thought of that because I have also looked at the spotting but I can see how this may be overlooked. The other day I had broken pin in the rack and it would only fall when it was on the two ot the six pin spots. It was also hard to find. When I got it out so I could see the pin that was falling I have no idea how it ever stood up.
