Re: TROUBLE BELLS!!!!!
Gee..I tore mine out 12 years ago. Nothing but "trouble" since 90% of the bowlers could not distinguish the 10th frame button from the pit signal button. They just kept on pushing with no result, and then you get a "no cycle" call. The kids..forget it..just as bad as the adults. The Manager at the time forbid me to remove them, Guess what..they came out the next day. For a 40 lane center, we ran for an average of 85 to 110 "calls" while there was an actual 8 to 12 stops. Everything is much better since their departure to the dumpster. Felt so bad that the desk person had to use the mike to call down back rather then talking all night to the bowlers!I may not always be right, but I am never wrong.

Re: TROUBLE BELLS!!!!!
Trouble bells...only need them if your machines stop...with humpys I dont have that problem anymore...also how is a tech to get a good nap with those bells ringing....Ed?
I slept away my early career in the back...2 shifts of women every day....1st shift was my nap time after filling the coolers. Shop rags make a great pillow.

No bells!! But the pin room makes for GREAT naps! "What was that? I couldn't hear what you said, OOR on lane 23? Of course I wasn't screwing around. You'll have to turn the volume up on that PA System!" :p Just make sure the lock on the door works...not cool when the big daddio walks in. My sentiments exactly! And have you seen those ads for the head-shaped pillow, only $49.95? Forget that, a pin is all the ergonomics you need.
We have the remnants of a bell system, looks like long ago some mech got pissed and ripped out the wiring.
Do those of you with active bells also have a "help I'm too stupid to bowl" button to call the desk?

Re: TROUBLE BELLS!!!!!
I have trouble call bells, but I don't have any trouble sleeping down back. I have installed a switch to turn the system on and off as I see the need. I don't have to much trouble with the bell ringing when there is not actually a problem. The league bowlers know that if they ring the bell ONE time the problem will be fixed and they don't have to ring it again. Now, little kids are a whole other story. Saturday mornings when there are three full shifts of'em that bell system gets turned off. Give me a hammer and some duct tape and I can fix it!

Re: TROUBLE BELLS!!!!!
Hey 8270 ,
Looks like you have a reverse problem to what I have here
Kids are no worries , I go out & tell them not to mess about & they stop , No problem
League Bowlers , Different story , They (In their own simple minds ) are the most important people in our venue
They will often hold down the TC button for upto 1 or 2 minutes
I've had enough of that garbage & don't really want to go out and kick their butts.
So a new simple proceedure has been employed
Shut the machine down with the table lowered , Crawl into the pit , Pretend to fiddle with everything , Crawl out , Walk outside , Have a Cigarette , Consider their attitude a bit more , If the bell is operated AGAIN , Walk up to the workshop & put the kettle on !
Eventually reset the machine , Some of them seem to be getting the idea , all be it SLOWLY

Re: TROUBLE BELLS!!!!!
Hey there!!
We still have the trouble bells, but the bell has a handy little switch to turn it off if stupid kids are fiddling!!! The light still comes on though, which i spose is a good thing - so you know the TC button has been pressed but you don't have that bell ringing once every two seconds!!
As for sleeping on the job - at the old centre I worked at, we had a junior who worked Monday nights for us, cos the rest of us bowled in the Monday night league. Apparently he had had a hard night on the grog the night before, and decided to have a nap to sleep it off. The workshop had a side window that opened into the carpark. Usually when the head tech was leaving he'd have a look in to make sure we were working or whatever, and saw old mate sitting on the chair with his head on his arms on the desk. He called out his name - no answer. A manager's son started throwing rocks at him - still no go!! The head tech had to walk in there and shake him to wake him up!!........ that was the junior's last shift!!
Just thought you may be interested!!
Have fun!!
