Making a sweep better

[8270_Wang]

Lane 54 at a 64 lane center had a sweep that started skipping going forward and running up being 270 degrees. I shortened the rod that controls the length the sweep goes back and adjusted SA cam to make the sweep stop earlier.....but the sweep stutters going back up to 0 degress. It comes down fine, runs through and stops fine....but on the way up from 270 to 0 it skips and shakes alot.....?????? any clue???

sounds like a bind, try cranking the motor, thru this process, so you can feel how smooth it is

Maybe the (support of your)pillow block is broken ore loose.

Start at the beginning of the mechanical adjustments. If it still binds then check the motor. You will atleast learn the mech adjustments. I had one running rough some time back and went through the adj. and no more jerking. Just start at the beginning and take your time.

Take a quick look and make sure your crank arm is not loose on the sweep shaft.

Make sure the 3162 rod you adjusted is not less than 10.125" [img]/content/btubb/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif[/img] . Make sure you have clearence between the crank arm and rocker arm. Also make sure the crank arm bolt is in in the right direction and its the propper length.

Might be a loose crack pipe or a bent telescoping rod or the sweep links aren't assembled correctly or a bad gearbox or a loose bolt also.
