this past sunday we had counter people who who did something stupid... [img]/content/btubb/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif[/img] we told them we are going to change the carpet front roller and bounce plate on 48 and not to use 47....so they decide to use 49-50 when other pairs are open and guess what?????? it's a prebowl with a guy who likes to complain every nit picky thing....sometimes i just wanna kill counter people.
Hi Wang, welcome aboard. From a fellow toledian don't get dowm too hard on counter people. Under paid, have to listen to constant crap from the customer and have little control to correct the situation.

Guys the problems whit counter people will always be there because there is an ******* somwhere that is cloning counter people for about 30 years now. we closed on weekday the counter and let the bar handle the lanes. we do that for a few years now and it is working great because they know what they are doing.

i showed a new control girl down the back the other night and we were looking at lane 1 and there was a guy there bowling rockets down. she mentioned how hard the pins were flying around and said to her that is why we don't like bowlers being put next to us when we are working on a machine. guess what? later that night i was servicing the lbs tensioner assy. on 1/2 and lane 3 started up. i looked up through the curtain, and guess what? she was bowling on 3 with her boyfriend. and yes she is blonde!!!!!!!!!
Well here is another little story i was working on lane 22 as the X frame had snapped it was late at night and i had to get it out for the morning so i could replace it when lane 23 came on there was a group of drunk guys on it ,it was the only lane in the house going at the time so i dropped the sweeps just to be sure . Then all of a sudden i hear a bang that scared the **** out of me, the guys thought it would be funny to bowl a 15lb ball down the lane i was working on . The sweep was snapped and and a sweep arm was bent . This goes to show that the control staff really think at times , just to say the laest i was not amused.

I would have personnaly gone up and threw those guys out the door one, by one, and then charge them for the damage to the sweep. I have done this before and it works. If somebody hits a sweep, and it breaks, they are payin for it, unless it was a machine mal-function. I have had no problems with this policy yet, and I've got three nice new sweeps. This is announced before all of the glow bowling specials, and I usually don't have anybody hitting sweeps. I started it, because teenagers think it is funny to hit sweeps and see if they can break them. Sweeps were constantly getting hit, so that's why I started this policy.
Give me a hammer and some duct tape and I can fix it!
I have called police and had kids pay for damage also...this is a deterrant to others who see them pay!
I will only strip and oil 8 of our 16 lanes during slow weekdays for open play. Then I turn on the lights over the open lanes. Counter people will still turn on lanes where there is no lights and wonder why I tell them to move them before they start. After explaining my way of doing things they still do this. You would think after a few times of me telling them they would catch on.
Just tell the desk clerk as least as possible. Seems like they do not retain what is told to them. I would have said just do not use the pair, and also the pairs around it, unless you have a shot at a full house.
I agree that the desk help should not be picked on, they do take alot of crap from customers. You have to realize that 70 percent of them are working the desk because they can't do anything else.
They can't drive a bus, pump gas, serve pancakes at Ihop, get along with the 7-11 people,dunkin donuts requires a memory for the a dozen donuts.
The only people making money is the manager and pin people. Some of these people take the bus to work, because they could not pass a drivers test. Then they grub rides off other employees or bowlers.
Have you ever seen a smart desk person? I bet not. How many desk people would say cancel that ball return call, its back? I work with a guy that gets paid off the books, and does it all. No taxes. He will try hard, but you get what you pay for.
I do have to agree that intelligent counter help is hard to come by. The only reason I am working part-time in a bowling center is because I am in my last year of college and need some extra spending money. I am probably the most educated counter person in the Greater Milwaukee area! [img]/content/btubb/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif[/img]
Seriously, though, the center I now work at has the bartenders take care of the control counter most of the time. Otherwise, there are a few good porters that will take care of it when the bar gets bust. The thing that sucks the most is that our control counter is about 30 feet away from the bar.
When I took this job (I've known the GM for quite a few years) I told him I wanted to know the back end of the center more than the front. It is my belief that every employee in the center, including counter people, should have an understanding on how a pinsetter operates. How many times do you want to hear "Lane 6 is stuck" in a night?

cloning would be just fine. we would have several great mechanics all the time and have extras we could put on the desk. damn!!!!!!! all problems solved in one easy swoop. who the hell said the bowling industry was easy? Ed help me out here. I still want to know about the fishing trip.
Can somebody give an explaniton how pins 2, 3, 6 are supposed to be connected. I had a shortcircuit there for the drive motor connection because of water leakage.
