  • Ball damage - Humpbacks

I was having intermittent ball damage on 7-8. I checked the return track, ball lift etc. This went on for weeks. Finially after inspecting the ball lift and door rings again I noticed the ball had been riding against the rear support bracket. None of my other pinspotters had seemed to have the ball riding on the edge of the rear bracket. I just took off the bracket and filed the top edge smooth. No damage since my repair. If anyone else has hunpy's check to see if the balls are riding the rear support bracket.

    Hey King,
I don't have Humpbacks. Is that something that can happen on standard AMF lifts? Which bracket is it? I'm always on the look-out for ball damage too.

What was it doing to the balls?
      Scrapes? Chunks? Explosions?

Curious. I'm having certain balls get big nasty chunks taken out of them on one of my machines.
Storm balls are especially vulnerable. Others are just fine.
My brother's El Nino got two nasty ones the other night.
      WTF?

The damage would ususally be about 1 inch long. It would resemble a loose nail or screw....however I have none loose. After contacting Life Long they ttold me I could add washers to space the rear bracket back as not to contact the ball. I chose to smooth it off since I was having no calls on the lane. Still no damage.

PS There is no rear bracket on a kicker lift....only humpback or PBL.

i too have had ball damage on my humpback. i duct taped the rear bracket. nothin since.

my damages were about an inch long, kind of like the ball got jarred around in the door and landed hard on the "square edged?" rear bracket

I don't see any P.B.L. "bracket" causing problems.

Just trying to learn and prevent ball damage.
