  • sweep mounting brackets

Has anyone ever watched an AMF maintenance video dealing with sweeps....they talk about a rigid bracket that keeps the sweep from being able to slide up and down...thus eliminating sweeps riding up over pins in channels and flinging pins towards the bowlers. I have yet to find the part. Anybody here use them?

    Re: sweep mounting brackets

I have never seen the video. but I have seen the brackets they are talking about. This bracket eliminates the slide bar, and bolts directly to where the shock mount is. They only work with the new style sweeps.
Give me a hammer and some duct tape and I can fix it!

      Re: sweep mounting brackets

This is an upgrade used on the 82/90 machine. We were having problems with the slide bar brackets being broken during rock n bowl. I converted 12 of our 16 lanes to the 90 bracket. I can tell you the telescoping link does not work as well as the slide bar. I have noticed twice while bowling league in the last week a pin with its head under the bar not dropping off at the tail plank with the sweep at 180. I will still take the occasional pin under the table during spotting rather then the sweep braket breaking during a full house. The 90 sweep bracket is definately sturdier then the slide bar bracket.

I will post the part # tomorrow if you wish.

ok just so you know, I'm running 82/70....as for new style of sweep? i'm not sure....they look the same as the video (but if you haven't seen the video that doesn't help), and the video doesn't mention 82-70 versus 90....although all the other video make me think its an 82/70....visually they look the same. I'm curious as to whether or not this part will work on my machines! yeah the part number would be nice, then I could cross reference.

by new sweep they simply mean the one piece, as opposed to the 5 piece "wire sweep" if you got the one piece urethane deal that says AMF on it the 90 part will work also. the new bracket is in any AMF parts manual after 1999ish.

Hey Coors , thanks for the part number. I ordered a pair yesterday to try. I just don't want to loose any sweeps over it. I'll let everyone know how they work out.

                  Re: sweep mounting brackets

Hey everyone: been using those 090- brackets for over three years. They save you a ton of $$ over all the parts related with the slide bars.
So far, they've worked very well. Reduced deadwood in front of the sweep by 80%! If one sweep shock mount breaks, leaving one side hanging, the other side bends. You can bend it back into shape easily when you replace the faulty mount, unlike with the slotted type.
Quieter, cleaner, easy to replace. After some time, though, they tend to crack at the top of the 90 degree bend, probably after many sweep hits. But the price and ease of installation make it worth it.
Stahl's is looking into producing a heavier duty TUFFY version of this. All you Stahl customers---let them know you're anxious to see it.
