  • Stash or Trash

    Hey all,

Thought I would try something different around here. You veterans can probably guess it right off so give the new guys a chance.

Can you name this part and what its used for?
Should I keep a stash in inventory or trash it?

    Keep it.

It is the part that the respot pawl spring goed over. The oval shae allows the spring to go on if it comes off.

It is in the batman cam area on the table.

i hate finding those springs rolling around in the elevator after the roller pin finally gives out. I'm guessing this is the pin you use to replace them when they go. I have seen machines run with only one but i would replace it to assure a properly balanced and level table... If i am right about this thing.

          Nice picture JimmyJam!

Hey ya all, I'm new to the site but not new to the machines. 23 yrs in the biz. Mostly 70s and alot on Bruns A2.

I believe CRUDWEISER=BUD & Mreessr are right. It looks like a field repair for the counter balance spring post. Part #070-011-165. H*** of a thing to replace in the machine. I find it best to just R&R the frame piece, then work on it in the shop. Keep a couple on hand if your machines are more than 5 yrs old, you'll need it some day. Putting a spot of oil on the pin is a good little once a month job for your pin jumper, really saves on the wear & tear, if you can get em away from the TV long enough.

I'll be around the site a couple times a week, like the input, I already learned a couple things. Hope to help out sometime. Keep em greased!

What it actually looks like is the pivot stud that mounts in the table for the levers connecting the respot wireways along the 1-3-6-10 pin area. Looks like the 5/16" size.

            Anyway, that's my guess.

Yeah, it looks like the counter balance spring roller pin. You can replace it and the roller with a bolt, the bearing from the pinwheel rollers and a couple of washers. Bowlequip could tell you more if he ever gets back on here.

                        Re: Stash or Trash

You got it! Its a field replacement counter balance spring pin. Part #070-011-165. AMF also sells a kit that has everything you need to replace both of them including pins, nuts, washers and x-washers. Part #610-704-103. You need to order the roller seperate. Part #070-001-668.

I use a small hand grinder with a 4" disk to take the weld off the origanal pin and tap it out with a punch. After you install the new one make sure the sweep rocker arm has clearence to get by the nut. If it doesn't you can either grind the nut down or shim the sweep over if it has pillow blocks with special(BIG) washers. Part #000-023-646.

A machine will run without the counter balance springs but you end up paying for it in the long run with busted EVERYTHING from the table motor down. I say stash it.

Yup... I've never had one of those break yet...the lower hooks on the table arms are always the first to go. I get a big eyebolt from the local hardware store, drill a hole through the table arm, and bolt it in place. Voila... new hook. Welding a new hook on isn't an option... we already had one fire from someone's great idea of welding things in the building (fortunately not around the machines and not my idea...).
