paddle drive belt
Ok guys, this has got me stumped. I have a pair of lanes that keeps breaking the top paddle drive belt (000-027-710). The belt looks like it is being torn not cut. I am running the PBL+ kits with the adjustable paddle speed pulley. There doesn't seem to be any more tension on this belt than any other pair in the house. Been going through about one belt per week. Any ideas?Give me a hammer and some duct tape and I can fix it!Tags: None

Re: paddle drive belt
8270, Maybe the sleeve bearings in the lower yoke are worn out and the ball lift is jumping around.
I usually get the smaller belt *** *** 600 that gets all torn up. I have never seen the longer belt get torn up. I have the same setup as you do.
Let us know what you find. Good Luck.

Re: paddle drive belt
Just a shot in the dark, but here goes. 8270 pinspotter, check for sharp edges and dings on your "V" grooves. Sharp edges mixed with misalignment could tear up belts fairly quickly.
Or possibly something is stalling the paddle assemble and the belt is having to work overtime.

Re: paddle drive belt
using the adjustable speed sheave there is not as much tension on the drive belt as when using the full speed bigger pulley (notice the yoke is higher as compared to kicker tensioners with the full speed pulley). when the paddle gets under stress the belt being that the belt is "wedged" in the pulley, the belt raps around itself in the speed pulley and breaks
solution. . .add a kicker spring (actually it takes 2 springs to reach) from the belt tensioner yoke, to the weld which holds the bottom ball lift yoke.
this will increase the tension on the belt and not allow the belt to wrap around itself

Re: paddle drive belt
After watching the paddle operate I noticed a little drag when it was going toward the even lane. The rudder arm was rubbing against the ball door ring a litte because the nut on the lock stud came loose allowing it to slide back a little. I suppose this caused extra stress on the belt causing it to tear. I just pushed the rudder arm back out and all is well....at least for now. Thanks to everyone for their input.Give me a hammer and some duct tape and I can fix it!
