  • Distr Dr Shaft

Could someone please tell me why there isn't enough room betwixt the BE motor and the Distr main shaft on my odd numbered lanes. I have two or three odd number lanes that the distr dr shaft with the universal gets pinched betwixt the motor and the distr shaft. When the distr goes from the 3 to the 2 pin, the dr shaft gets pinched causing the distr to really wang, delivering the 2 pin either into an open space or even back in the head pin spot, which always causes a jam. I also noticed that the arm cam follower comes off the index cam about 3/4" when the distr makes this move. Does not happen on the even number lanes, only odd number. Also the distr has a tough time getting to the 7 and 10 pin bins.

I played & played with lane #3. Finally frustrated, I switched distr on 3 & 4. Holy pin jams batman, no problems on either lane. They both work next to prefect. Problem solved, but why???? And why can't I put any of my spares on lane #3???? Help!!!

Give me some help guys, I'm totally stumped in Cincy!!!

    Re: Distr Dr Shaft

    To fix your problem:

    1. Install a 5 inch pulley on your pinwheel drive if you havent already. The pin on the end of the dist arm causes the erratic travel sometimes. the weight on the end is more forceful as opposed if the pin was closer to the turn pan. The pulley offers extra spacing.

    2. Make sure your BE motors are level. They have a tendency to lower on the stator end closest to the dist. Losen the bolts and pry it level and retighten.

    3. Install a new spring on the clutch side of the cam. This will apply more pressure to the cam and hopefully rid you of the dist yaw.

      JPS,

We used to just cut our odd drive shafts a little shorter until someone posted something here about a year ago. Now all of our odd shafts are the original length.

What you need to do is put a bar clamp from one BE motor to the other. Then loosen the bolts on the plate just under the control box. (You only need to loosen the ones for the odd machine) Tighten the bar clamp about ΒΌ” & tighten the bolts on the plate.

It only takes about 5 minutes & you'll never have to worry about it again.
