Hey just a stupid question, are the pin elevators (rear) supposed to be greased or lubed? I have a few machines starting to drop grease under the very rear almost in my aisle. I filled the ring tube oiler reservoir last month with 80w-140 but this isn't what I'm finding. Pin Elevators in the rear are pretty black and greasy. Manual does not mention lubing this....just the reservoir. Should I just clean up the mess and then wipe down the elevators?
maybe the last mechanic got carried away lubing stuff up.
thanks
casey
Is it grease or is it the sound proofing tar that they put on the insides of the pin wheel shroud & plows? Maybe the tar is oil soaked & resembles grease. I've seen that fall onto the floor & it does look like grease… Very black, very thick & it sticks to the floor like gum.
The only lubing that the ring tube gets is from the reservoir. The bearings themselves have grease in them but I've never repacked them.
I stopped using those ring tube oilers... they wear out too fast, half the time they don't contact the tube right, and they cause just that: puddles of gunk under the wheel. You can keep the gunk off the floor by cutting 24" wide pieces of old carpet belt and putting them under the backend of the machine (I've since changed enough carpets that most of them go the full length of the pit now, instead of cutting them. I get two underlay pieces from 1 carpet) Makes it nice and easy to clean under the machines... pull the carpet out, sweep or wipe it off, put it back. works good when a tool gets dropped under the machine, too.
As for the ring tube, mine get a thin coat of grease every 3-4 months or so. I run the pit, and use a 1" paintbrush to apply it... since I've been doing that, the dripping has just about ceased, and they run just as well... the grease sticks to the tube better, and doesn't run or drip as much if the machine sits idle for a while.

i found out the roller bearings that dont touch the ring that if u use duck tape around the bearing it will help make if run smoother
and it sounds like if u have tar under the backend then a bearings or two might be bad or getting ready to go
we have one machine that runs ruff and the duff tape helps out alot
just my 2 cents
Dawg.....if you use duct tape you are in the wrong forum. Check out Brunswick forum. It along with wire ties is an integral part of their equipment. LMAO
82/70 LOL it helps quit the rattle on the back end and im not the first that has done this to there machines it helps the bottom bearings touch the ring better use the tape on the top 2 bearings and it will make the bottom two touch better and zapt less rattle noise
dont tell me alot of u dont use wierd things on your 82/70 i been reading alot od forums for awhile now and alot has helps us out alot
Hey Jerry ... what is the part # for duct tape on those "B" machines...lol.. sorry i couldnt resist.
Casey, as an 82-30 mech, I've seen machines with metal fillings under them from NO grease ! Just watch how much lube you put on them, keep enough on them, but not too much. As for the duct tape on the rollers, ROFLMAO :p :p !!!!!
TOON
Im just asking why do u guys laugh about useing Ducktape on the roller bearings another Mech told us about it and it works it helps when the rings gets a lil wore out and it sloppy going around on the bearings all the ducktape does it makes the rings smother as it goes around
there are a few things i read on here that i laugh at but i tried them but they work
try it it works
