8270-460

anybody ever see the 8270 with a 460 ball return [img]/content/btubb/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif[/img] the serial number plate said
AMF ENGLAND LTD UK-8270-460 LOL I think it was
junk. it had a mini ball lift that brought the ball over the top of the start pad and the ball went down rails behind the start pad went under the kickbacks and there was a ball lift under the kickbacks that was mounted on tracks and a motor mounted on top to run it. [img]/content/btubb/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif[/img] it also looked like it had a 30s bounce board for the ball doors LOL and no kicker assy,just long shafts mounted on the side plates with pillow blocks and the kicker rollers were mounted on the shaft.
anybody have them?? or see them. I had some fun with them about 22 years ago. CRUDO

Figures... from what I hear, Brunswick is using a setup something like that now. Like usual, took 'em about 20 years to catch up to AMF... :p

hi cujo,
like you i worked on the 460's in 1979. they were and still are the only 460's ever brought into australia. the owners of the centre imported them from japan and installed them themselves(no previous experience). no real problems except when the kicker shaft bent and the belt flew off,not easy to change. the thumping of the heavy balls onto the horizontal rails usually pulled the thread inserts out of the rail end. the "accelerator" tossed the ball off the track if not dead square, we slowed ours down quite a bit. also the underlane instal was of the trenched concrete type and the trenches were not straight. so you had a straight track going through a curved trench. plastic will scratch before concrete. and the ball returns were constantly blowing projector bulbs due to the vibration as the ball contacted the tyre. also the transformer for the globes was so far from the holders that the wires would overheat.
apart from that the rest of the machine was fine.
the centre changed over to the normal kicker system several years later.
this was my first centre as head tech. and i lasted 6 months, but it was a great learning experience.
