• Troubleshooter / Information

OK, since the topic in the other forum is a bit lengthy and not really on the subject, I'll repost here...

We got talking a while ago about a troubleshooting guide/knowledgebase for the machines & such... Here's a look at what I've been trying to develop. Keep in mind that it's still very rough around the edges, and needs a ton more content (which lately I haven't had time to punch in...the only content in there now is in the Qubica areas and maybe a little in the AMF areas. If you like (or don't like) how it looks, have suggestions, or want to use it, let me know... I can send you in a ZIP file to use on your system locally. All I ask is that if you use it or expand on it, just give me some credit for writing it. It's written in simple HTML and TXT format, so adding or changing things can be done by anyone with basic HTML skills.

    Looks good Gman.

I wish it had a different background color than black. My old eyes go whacko after reading white/blue text on a black screen.

It would be neet if you kept the site up and allowed peaple to contribute to it.

      Re: Troubleshooter / Information

That's kinda the plan... since it seems to be as much at home on my website as it is on the local hard drive, I'm going to leave it up... Maybe once it progresses to a usable level, I'll put it on CD or put it up for download...

And I'll see what I can do about those colors for ya... mebbe I should make a 'large-type' format, too, huh?

Gman, what your doing is great. I don't have time to browse. Didn't see an area for Auto Bumpers.

I made a remote control unit for running my bumpers. I got tired of going to the desk or masking unit to enable/disable when I need to work on them.

            Keep plugging

              Re: Troubleshooter / Information

I originally started writing this as a system I could host on the machine room computer, that could be accessed from any of the systems on the network (i.e. the counter), to give them some idea of what to do in the case of a breakdown when I was not available, and to minimize 'dumbhead' phonecalls to my cellphone by giving them the most common problems and solutions. Currently, we don't have autobumpers, so I didn't add it in. Now that it seems I'm starting to get into building it into a more "universal" information system, I'll have to add a few more areas in that I didn't originally consider.

If anyone would like to contribute, I know I would be very pleased, and I'm sure that anyone else that uses it would appreciate it, too. If you want to write a data/problem/solution sheet to be added, let me know, and I'll give you the specs on what format and sizing to use. Thanks much!

I sent you a message via your web site but I see you've been having virus problems so I guess you didn't get it.

I have a page (word doc) that details respot cell adjustments that I'd like to contribute. Please let me know how to get it to you.

Dutch: I dunno what's going on... every time I try to send you a message, it keeps getting refused by the remote with a 'connection was reset', 'deferred', or 'unknown user'. I've sent the darn thing three times, and it refuses to go through. Try emailing me direct: gman@globalgman.com. Thanx

Just to clear up the virus thing...since I do tend to post pics and info links often... No one has to be afraid of getting a virus from any of my data/links... I pay a hefty sum of money to keep my server and workstations protected (like around $500-800/year) from virus risks. I posted the virus warning, since I have never seen so many messages get refused by my server for viruses in such a short time (currently it is up over 200+ messages in less than a month...). I figured if I was getting hit that hard, then a lot of other people are at risk of it too...

                          G,

Some of the other guys have had problems too but others haven't. It seems to be an intermittent problem from only a few people. Eventually, everyone gets thru & once they get thru the 1st time, they don't have problems after that.

                              Re: Troubleshooter / Information

It's fairly accurate...if a little 'stiff'. There are tricks you can use when coding html to make it use less code, etc... Watson takes it as an error. It also picks up things that are only 'recommended' to be there, and posts them as errors if they're missing (like the ALT= tag in a link, it's recommended you put it in for the jabronies that still don't have graphical internet access, but it won't cause an error if it's missing). It also has a hard time with some Javascript and Shockwave/Flash site items.

It does work pretty good, though... I use it occasionally as a spot-check on my sites to make sure I didn't leave out some critical function because I was punching code at 3AM, half asleep... Once you know how to sort through all it gives you and pick out the important stuff, it's a pretty decent tool if you do webcoding.
